'Domino' transplant saves trooper's life

A functional liver useless to a Massachusetts

man because of a rare genetic condition has saved the life of a retired Pennsylvania

state trooper through a " domino " transplant performed in Pittsburgh,

doctors said Wednesday.

While Rudd underwent his 14-hour operation, his liver

was transplanted into shock, 64, of

Sugarloaf, Luzerne County,

a retired state trooper dying from primary sclerosing cholangitis, a disease

that attacks the bile ducts.
