Guest guest
Just wanted to intro myself. I came from Elaine 's Yahoo Graves Disease board, Just had a total thyroidectomy a month back and was not able to see my endo until last week. Right after surgery I was put on 50 mcgs of Synthroid. Felt great. 2 weeks after I started radiation treatments for my TED (was losing vision back in August and put on Prednisone). Towards the end of my radiation treatments, I started to become very sleepy and for a few days, slept a lot, couldn't function, constipated, bascially all signs of hypo activitiy, until I saw my endo. She upped my Synthroid (Abbott) to 88 and 100 mcgs -- take 88 one day and 100 the next because she felt that 88 may not be enough and that 100 might be too much (I did not have blood work at this point and still had leftover thyroid hormone circulating in my bloodstream that was clearly dying down). But I feel very tired and cold yesterday and today, after just one week of having my Synthroid upped. I can't stop yawning. I had bloodwork done yesterday morning (FT4, FT3, TSH and other stuff -- my doc basically checked off all pertininet labs since I just had surgery -- she wants to check *everything*) so I should know by Monday what's going on. Do you think I already need to adjust my Synthroid levels again? Or too soon? I'm really watching for hypo signs -- primarily sluggishness, coldness and poo problems as well as strange rashes from being either hypo or hyper (too much Synthroid can make me tempoarily hyper, correct?). I did develop a slight rash on the side of my face. Does not itch with tiny flesh-toned bumps, barely perceptible, but it's been there for the past week. And I'm a bit confused about Synthroid -- how do you know what dosage is for you and why does it need to be tweaked every so often, esp. since I no longer have a thyroid gland? I know someone who is taking Armour and I don't know what's wrong with her but she is cold ALL the time. I'm freezing right now, esp. my feet and legs. I also noticed what seems to be water retention in my legs since my endo upped my medication. Thanks for any replies.
