First I am down 57 pounds since July 9th. Had a bit of a scare with not keeping anything down. Luckily I dont have an ulcer!!!!! Second I have a new job that I love. I left my horrible one before I was even supposed to return to them. I am now a Tax Reporting Analyst for Equiserve. The best part of the job is that there is a free gym on the property and it is always dead, so I can really begin to work out. I am excited about exersize! NEVER thought those words would be uttered out of my mouth. Hope everyone had a great summer and I missed all you losers, but I thought about you on a daily basis. Guest guest
If you stop taking xenical then you will gain the weight and possibly more back... just like Audrey did. If you do your BMI doesn't it come out to 39% which classifies you as being class 2 moribidly obese. And I know someone that had the surgery at the same level. You might want to check with a different dr.... maybe your psychologist can help with a referral. Matina

I'm not sure of the exact reasoning's for your Dr's decision, however, if you feel like you really want this, and meet the " requirements " , perhaps you should consider another Dr? Guest guest
I'm not having WLS surgery either, and though I'm sure a few would love to see me pack my bags up, I'm not going anywhere. I would like to suggest, if you think that you need this surgery, that you go to www.obesityhelp.com and use some of the resources you find there. My husband was scared that he would be denied (yeah right at 627 pounds) so he chose to find a primary care physician who supported the surgery (his PCP has had the surgery himself...one of Dr. Thayer's patients). I personally have a very hard time understanding the use of prescription medication to lose weight unless you are planning on being on it for the rest of your life, but I have a whole lot of problems with medications anyway. You don't seem to be happy with his assessment of your medical needs, and you really have a lot more control than you think you have. Don't let the doctors and insurance companies bully you around. Maybe you don't want to fight the battle right now, just keep in mind that your doctor's denial of you doesn't mean that you cannot get the surgery. -- S > hello everyone.. > > well as i wrote before all hell broke loose around > here .. i was goin to the docs on tues to talk to him > about my interest in wls.. well unfortunately he > denied me.. and of course w/ my insurance and whatnot > i need prior referral to do so.. his reasonning was > that he considered me not to be morbidly obese just > obese and that w/ time (aprox 2 yrs) and sticking to > the xenical (oh joyous frequent visitations to the > bathroom pill) i should meet my weight loss goal.. i > was and am not too happy but he seems to know best.. i > hope since i am new to the group that i wont be booted > from here as well just because i wont be going thru > wls .. w/in the last week of being here w/ you guys > and listening to your great followups and true to > nature friendships i feel like i'm fitting in .. if > you decide to have me leave i'll understand good luck > to all and congrats too ((((big hugs))))))) > lise - salem nh > > __________________________________________________ > Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? > Donate cash, emergency relief information > http://dailynews.yahoo.com/fc/US/Emergency_Information/

Guest guest
Lise, Every doctor has his own opinion on wls but I don't think you should stop there. You have to do what you think is best for you and what you want for yourself. You are the one living the life. I made my appointment w/Dr. Thayer and a month later I happen to have an appointment with my PCP. I told her about the upcoming appointment that was in 2 more months. She was all for it saying she already had 5 patients go through the surgery with excellent results and several more had consults booked. I was shocked because I didn't think she would back me on it but wasn't going to let that change my mind. She told me flat out that she has people make their own appointment that her office has nothing to do with it. The surgeon is the one that gets the approval for the surgery. I don't know any specifics about you as to how much weight you have to lose but I tried zenical and loss very little on it. I am sooooooo happy that I had wls. I think maybe you should make the appointment with a surgeon for wls and then call your primary and ask them for the approval for the consult. Worse that could happen is they won't give it to you and you will have to cancel. If the doctor calls you on it just let him know how you feel and you want to at least see a surgeon to discuss your options. The surgeon is then the one that has to deal with the insurance to get the surgery approved it isn't your primary doc. Donna

Guest guest
Lise, I switched doctors because my PCP was from an older generation that still believes it's a matter of self control. I had the surgery on August 9th with the blessing of my new and younger PCP and I feel like a million dollars. C 299/265/
