Guest guest
Dr. Sy or Group, A few days ago someone posted on using a product/perscription containing Benzoyle peroxide for the pimples that leave long lasting red marks. Has anyone else been successful with this? Are there long term problems for rosacea skin? Could anyone suggest a product try? Thanks, Marla
Guest guest
Marla: When I used benzoyl peroxide as a teenager, I never thought that it helped fade those red marks that old pimples left. As well, bp is very irritating and you might make your rosacea worse by using it. I think I helped make my rosacea worse by using bp. I've heard that beta hydroxy acids(bha) help fade those marks. Some products with bha's in them are those by a Begoun (www.cosmeticscop.com) which come in 1% and 2% bha doses. I believe that Clinique has them in their turnaround cream. (I've tried this and it made me break out.) I think Neutrogena has it in the form of salicylic acid in some of their products. I hope you find something that works for you. Guest guest
Marla, I am not sure whether or not the red marks were caused by the acne lesions for which benzoyl peroxide was prescribed, or they were caused by BP per se due to irritation. It is hard to generalized as different individuals have different skin types, different stages of their rosacea and different responses. However, I think that it is prudent to say that if you have rosacea and sensitive skin, it is best to avoid products that are harsh and may irritate your skin.
