Congrats on getting to this point!

The drool - well, you probably have some numbness from the surgery.

I think that's what caused my drool - I couldn't feel my lips, so I

didn't have any control over my drooling. I remember telling my mom

that it wasn't just any old kind of drool. I told her it was atomic

drool because it was nasty. It will take time, but it will

eventually go away.

As for when you'll be able to talk, it really depens on what sort of

fixation your doctor is using, if any, and on you as a patient. If

you're wired, it might be a while. If you're splinted and banded, it

will take time, but not as long as if you were wired. I was splinted

and banded. For the first week after surgery, my doc had four really

tight bands in, so I couldn't talk at all. During my follow up

appointment, he changed them to looser bands. That's when I was able

to begin talking, though it wasn't anywhere near normal for me.

Have patience. By the time you're two weeks post-op, you should be

feeling pretty good. Hang in there.

I am wired and was talking fine by the 3rd day, takes practice, but

like most things, you learn to adapt. Congrats on your surgery, and

good luck!

Beans!

Holy Moly! Get some rest! I couldn't even look at a computer at 1-

1/2 days postop! Sounds like you're having a good start. Drool will

be a natural part of your life for a few weeks. You'll get lip

control before you know it, long before the numbness wears off.

As for talking, depends if you have a splint. I had one for over

three weeks and it was difficult the entire time. People could

understand me but it was just so muffled and tiresome. I was able to

talk extremely better/easier once the splint was out.

Welcome to the Other Side!

Irish!
