My Periodontist told me I was the worst case he'd ever seen in someone who didn't have Leukemia. He took pictures of my mouth for a dental magazine. I hate admit that mine was largely caused by improper dental hygiene. But, I also must say that with me, it seems to be hereditary. My mom lost her teeth from it years ago. My brother and sister both have it, but not as severely. I know a lady on another FMS/CFS list who has terrible gum disease too. It was not due to dental hygiene and I also never ate candy and very little in the way of sweets. I have always craved salty things since I was a child. Finally in 1997, I had all my teeth pulled that were left (24) in same day. I ended up with 14 dry sockets afterwards and lots of pain. I very rarely have canker sores, but they seemed to pop up when I started the cyclobenzaprine. Has anyone else had this happen? I assume it is from having such a dry mouth. I can barely eat right now! I am not really sure how gum disease could be linked to fibro. I have read there are blood sugar issues with fms and maybe this is linked to the gum disease, but I am not sure how it would be linked otherwise. For my mouth sores on the outside, and believe me I have them bad. I take Valtrex for 3 days and they go right away.
