Hi ,

I do have severe gum disease, Phase IV Periodontitis. My Periodontist told me I

was the worst case he'd ever seen in someone who didn't have Leukemia. He took

pictures of my mouth for a dental magazine.

I hate admit that mine was largely caused by improper dental hygiene. But, I

also must say that with me, it seems to be hereditary. My mom lost her teeth

from it years ago. My brother and sister both have it, but not as severely.

I know a lady on another FMS/CFS list who has terrible gum disease too. As to

whether it could be related to FMS, I have no idea.

Gums

First timer. Sorry this is not a happy topic but am anxious to know

if anyone else suffers from gum disease. On my dentist's list I am

one of the two patients with gum disease, that not caused by poor

dental hygiene but by unknown source, both of whom have Fibromyalgia.

Both female. Co-incidence or what? Anyone have any ideas on this

subject? Best wishes to all.

I too had many problems with my gums. It was not due to dental hygiene and I

also never ate candy and very little in the way of sweets. I have always craved

salty things since I was a child. Finally in 1997, I had all my teeth pulled

that were left (24) in same day. I ended up with 14 dry sockets afterwards and

lots of pain.

I now wear dentures but still find that my gums get sore quite often. I just

turned 50 last week.

Allicia, this is not the same as gum disease, but I have those sores in my mouth

right now. I very rarely have canker sores, but they seemed to pop up when I

started the cyclobenzaprine. Has anyone else had this happen? I assume it is

from having such a dry mouth. I can barely eat right now!

I am not really sure how gum disease could be linked to fibro. I have read

there are blood sugar issues with fms and maybe this is linked to the gum

disease, but I am not sure how it would be linked otherwise. Maybe from having

a dry mouth from all the medications?

Sincerely, Pamela Rauch

I started having mouth sores this spring on and off. At first, when I

looked, I didn't see anything that looked like canker sores, but after I

really started looking closely and with each new sore, I realized they

really were canker sores. Not sure if yours will be or not, but I

haven't figured out what is causing mine yet.

I do know its caused from acid in your body, among other things. There are

two things I take. For my mouth sores on the outside, and believe me I have

them bad. I take Valtrex for 3 days and they go right away. For the inside

of your mouth take 2 Pepcid ac 2 times a day and they go right away. Good luck

Thanks Pamm, but I already take that kind of stuff and still get them.

Someone suggested taking 1000 mg of folic acid, so I'm trying that.
