Guest guest
i'm 5 weeks on monday and i think that my doctor didn't lower my top jaw enough. That was one of my problems..before surgery when I talked you couldn't see my top teeth and stuff. I sure hope that it's just the swelling that's the problem. Guest guest
Hi Beans I'm Amy and i had double jaw surgery and rapid palatal expnsion last year (at 16) because of an underbite. I had my top jaw brought forward and my lower jaw pushed back. At first after surgery i kept complaining to my surgeon that he had pushed my bottom jaw way too much as it looked like i now had an overbite, but he explined to me that after the swelling went down it would look much better. He also told me they do this so that incase the lower jaw decides to grow a bit more, it will have enough room so that it doesnt become an underbite again. So u really havent mentioned what u had done but thats my experience. Dont worry i'm sure your surgeon new what he was doing.!! Guest guest
I am six weeks post-op and look in the mirror and want to cry. My nose is all over the place from the impaction and my upper lip suddenly seems huge when I smile. Yes, I can relate, but my surgeon assures me it takes a FULL 6 MONTHS for all the swelling to completely abate. I have to have faith in that or I will go crazy. You probably have more swelling than you realize because your features have been rearranged and you don't really know what you are supposed to look like now. You're still early in the game too. I've heard you have more swelling with upper than lower. I don't know. I guess everyone is different. It's hard to patient, believe me, I know. > i'm 5 weeks on monday and i think that my doctor didn't lower my top > jaw enough. Guest guest
Hi beans, Sometimes the surgeon will overcompensate because things do move a little bit post-op. Do ask your surgeon next time you see him/her. > I just looked in the mirror & it looks like my bottom jaw is pushed > back too much. Guest guest
Hi Tammy, I'm sure that swelling is the problem for you. I had upper/lower/genio for an overbite (gummy smile was one of the problems), and I could barely lift my upper lip for a long time. Things will be swollen and stiff there for awhile - you'll just have to be patient. At first I looked like a baby because all I could flash were the bottom points of my upper two front teeth. Now I can flash all the way up to my gums, but I just can't quite flash gum anymore. Perfect job, but boy, I was sure worried in the beginning just like you. It's fair game to tell your surgeon that you're concerned, although they will probably tell you that the swelling will need to come down more. Don't panic - they're very likely right. > i'm 5 weeks on monday and i think that my doctor didn't lower my top > jaw enough.
