My rash was on my scalp and no one knew what was causing it. I spent three years wondering what it was. It just showed up one day and lasted for a full three years. My doctor didn't know what it was... I tried so many things to cure it... but nothing helped. I knew it was an allergic reaction... and I prayed that it wasn't to my cats. I am allergic to cats... but these little ones needed a home... and I knew I could give them a very good home. So... I just put up with the rash.

The rash would ebb and flow throughout the 3 years. Sometimes it was so itchy that it drove me nuts...

I became very ill with ulcer type symptoms and went through six months of tests before my doctor told me that it was Celiac's. He never had anyone in his practice that had CD. He thought (at the time) that it was rare. The very day he told me about CD, he also gave me all the info that he had. I went online to do more research and came across the DH photos. I sent him the link to the web site with the following message... typed just like this: " THIS IS WHAT I HAVE!!!! "

There was no testing for DH... because when I gave up gluten it went away. It took a month or two (I'm pretty lucky from what I read) to go away... then a few months ago.. I went back to using my old shampoo.... all of a sudden the rash came back.... then I read the bottle.... it contained wheat! It took three weeks for the rash to go away... My mom is now using the unused shampoo and gel.

If I some how do get gluten in my digestive system... the rash comes back within 20 mintues. I'm so sick that the rash is the least of my problems.

So, I get the rash if I eat something with gluten... or if I use shampoo with gluten. So far.. it's only the scalp (some times my face) that gets the rash.

Next week I will have to travel from the east coast to Las Vegas for a conference and I am very worried about what I will be eating while there. I'm going to be taking some food with me...

Hi Guys, I have had Dh since I was about 13-14 years and that was a long time age, because I am now 71 years old. This progessed over the years to full blown Celiac plus the DH and the Dh has really changed in it's character. I now longer get the blisters and the crusty, weepy rash plus the horrible itching and nasty crusting of the lesions. But I do get somewhat itchy, red, rash and it is not as bad as before.. I do not believe that I will ever get over this reaction. I just hope you can get to the point where you are better. I have had this since I was about 13 years old abd you will probably will never get much better than I am right now. But you younger people have a change to really live a new life and all I can say is more power to you. Shirley in San Diego sunshinest8in79 wrote: Hi Esther, I also have DH. I though it was a hormonal imbalance or something to do with sugar intake. Imagine, all those years! I just recently found out about celiac and DH. My grandmother and her sister had it. My mother died early on so I don't know if she was affected or not. Since being on a gluten free diet since Oct. the breakouts have been "different". For the first few months there were no breakouts, then when it happened, it was not localized to the area they always appeared. Now they were breaking out in other areas. They start the same way but never get to the blister stage. DH can be diagnosed by a biopsy of the skin adjacent to the lesion. If there are no lesions d/t being on a GF diet, they can use an iodine patch to bring a lesion out. If they biopsy the lesions, it most likely will give a

false negative for DH. Hope this helps. Dee, Tampa, Fl> >> > ... I> > have DH which means that I have to bring my own shampoo and gel when> I get> > my hair cut.... Shirley,

Have you checked all the items in which you come in contact? I know sometimes DH just won't go away... but... I would love you to be DH free too!

I did use one shampoo that didn't list any type of wheat or gluten on the bottle.. but would make my nose area very red.... after... I went back and checked the rest of the shampoos in that line and their other products.... they all had wheat... I wondered if that shampoo was crossed contaminated. Or didn't list the wheat even though it was in there...

I had problems with the Vo5 line.

I have thin hair and most thickening shampoos have wheat. Right now the only one I can use is the thickening shampoo by Pantene.

Problem with DH is that you can make a change in products... and the product is safe... but you have to wait for weeks before you know!

The other line that gave me a problem is called " Head. " I use to love how my hair looked.... my scalp was another story! sigh!

Also look at the soaps that you use... what you use to wash the dishes.. .or to clean the house.... for your bath...

I can't be in any house when anyone is cooking with flour. I can't feed the cats their dry food... well, if I do... I try not to touch it and wash my hands right after feeding them.

I'm an artist... and would work in paste paper... While I haven't done it in a while... I used to use wall paper paste... I have a huge tub in my studio... I have to check to see if there is wheat in that. If so... I won't be able to create my paste paper. I loved doing that... and wanted to teach my nieces how to do it in the summer. If it's wheat... I'm going to have to think of something else to use... sigh!

Carol

Can you kindly reveal the name of the line to avoid? Thanks!-- Carol M Heppner

Carol, is your thin hair from a thyroid problem? I noticed my hair is getting

thinner over the last 7 months. My thyroid lab tests came back within normal

limits, but I feel hypothyroid. With the thinning hair, I think that must be the

problem. I hope your paste paper is not made of wheat so you can continue to do

what you love to do.:~) Dee, Tampa, Fl
