Guest guest
Peg, For me it took a good solid 3-3.5 weeks...I too am a side sleeper. Once discovered the right position for me was mine for a LONG time! I loved the day I suddenly slept the ENTIRE night! When I awoke it hurt, but once I moved around a bit, I was feeling better. I still can't sleep on my left side since my accident, that's been driving me bonkers! I seem to not like my right side as much, but can tolerate that and only that at this point! Dawn How long before you could sleep on your side? I haven't been getting much sleep because I am a side and stomach sleeper. My back has been hurting tremendously at night. How long before some of you were finally able to sleep on your side or stomach? Thanks, Peg
Guest guest
Peg, I am a side sleeper and found the best thing for me to do was to get a body pillow and put it under my stomach. It helped relieve some of the pain and pulling. I tried sleeping in a recliner but was told my my PCP that I had to stop doing that since the fluid I got from surgery wasn't leaving my body because of sleeping sitting upright. I use to wake up to rollover and roll the pillow with me. Wal-mart carries them for less than $10. Lea
Guest guest
Peg, I think it was a week after surgery when I was able to sleep on my side. I slept with a pillow between my knees which I usually do anyway because of a chronic back problem. My back got a lot worse after surgery but let up about 3 weeks after. I am 7 weeks post op and still can't sleep on my stomach. Two weeks ago I went for a massage and was on my stomach. When it came time to turn over the pain in my stomach was tremendous and it took me a good few minutes and pain until I could. The pain quickly let up. It didn't give me pain when laying on it only when I went to move. The same thing happened last week when I went to the beach. Take good care of yourself. Guest guest
peg.. after about a week and a half was sleeping on my side...7 weeks out and still not sleeping on tummy all the way yet.. try using one of those big body pillows and and lay on your side...have your tummy lay ON the pillow...and have a pillow behind your back..so you are kind of sandwiched in between the pillows.. worked for me kim fitchburg

Guest guest
I did the same as Ellen described, and everyday was more on my side than the day before. However, I held the pillow to my stomach tightly until I was in position, then kept it in place. I can't sleep on my back at all and my back was killing me from laying on it for extended periods. I am now 6 weeks out, and can sleep on my sides, or stomach. Patti > I put a pillow under my stomach ans slept a little sideways ... Not much but > enough to feel better ... Guest guest
Hi Peg, I was home for a week, and then I found side sleeping to be comfortable. I am so glad everthing went so well for you. Keep up the good work, and don't forget to rest. I was 3 weeks post-op yesterday. I started back to work today and I feel like a million bucks. It sounds like your recovery has been somewhat similar. Keep it up! - > I haven't been getting much sleep because I am a side and stomach > sleeper.
