Guest guest
I discovered last weekend that the experiences shared on this group really help, even when you don't think the experiences relate to you. A while back I just sort of skimmed through all the posts about playdoh substitutes because I'm a little too old for playdoh and I don't have kids. Thought it wasn't important to me. But, Saturday night I was playing a board game called Cranium with some friends. It comes with some modeling substance (Playdoh?) that is used in parts of the game. While I was just squishing it around in my hands (nervous habits) a friend next to me said " that smells like dough " . I immediately flashed back to every post on this group that I had flown by with suggestions for substitutes. Then I threw it down and scrubbed my hands raw. New game rule, Lori doesn't do modeling. Kind of a good thing since I don't have a creative bone in my body and always lose that part of the game anyway. So, thanks to all of those parents that helped me out, even though I didn't realize it at the time. Lori in ATL

The playdough in it was clearly labelled " gluten free " . Then when we got the game (Cadoo) for Christmas the playdough was not labelled gluten free. I guess I should call the company. I am the one who is GF, though, not him. I just make sure I wash my hands well after playing. By the way, off topic, all of the cranium games we have played have been really fun. Guest guest
I did call the company, the " clay " isn't GF. They helped me exchange the Cadoo Jr. he got for his birthday for Bumpareena (sp?) which contains no clay and is tons of fun. Guest guest
We too like to play Cranium My celiac daughter often plays with us (we have a family game night once a week) even though she is only 5. She plays on mommy or daddy's " team " . Anyway, we have gluten-free playdoh here at the house that she gets really excited to pull out when we decide to play Cranium. Anyway, I realized that maybe some of the newer Celiac parents might want the following information. I didn't know about it until about 9 months after our daughter was diagnosed. Discount School Supply (www.discountschoolsupply.com) sells gluten-free playdoh. It comes in a large tub with 8 different colors. It is $19.97, but it is a REALLY LARGE TUB. I ordered two at the beginning of the school year. One for home and one for her Kindergarten class. Now my daughter is old enough to not eat it and wash her hands, but even then, she tends to get it under her fingernails and that stuff is hard to dig out! Anyway, the GF stuff is really great, has a really nice consistency, and so far mine has lasted over 6 months without any signs of needed replacement. Here is a link to the actual product: http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/product/product.asp?sku=7566 Hope this helps someone out there! Guest guest
Are you serious??? It was labeled GF?? That is amazing! Definitely call the company and find out about the real game, I'll be interested to hear. My son is too young still for that game but it would be nice to konw for the near future. Guest guest
Maureen, Yes, Bumparena is a fun game... especially for the kids.. and it seems that a child of any age can understand the concept. Guest guest
The playdough from Discount School Supply is AWESOME! I also buy that in bulk... In addition, our daughter likes making play dough too (she's 4), so we also make GF homemade dough too.
