Sorry, that bread is OUT. In fact, I think it contains 3 of the 4 things we can't have (I think Rye is the only thing not in this bread!)

Hello there, I am recently diagnosed, read a lot, but have many questions. I know that you cant rely on all advise you hear, or read for that matter, so I thought I would bring this to you… the ones who have been doing this for a while, the “pros” ;p

I have a well meaning friend that heard what I am going through, he introduced me to a tasty bread, however I am not sure it is permissible in the diet. I was under the impression any wheat was not good. He said since it is sprouted it is ok, the bread is Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Bread, I want to be sure its ok, I thought wheat itself was the issue, not the flour. Far be it from me to try it, I don’t want to learn the hard way!

Thanks,

JudyLynn

He's wrong.

You're right.

Don't eat it.

I had to teach the grocery manager at my local store about the fact

that the bread with such a cool sounding name is NOT good for celiacs.

That grocery manager didn't " hear me " . I switched to a different

grocery store and am now FAR happier, as the new grocery store will

gladly get me Van's Gluten Free waffles, Kinnikinnick bread, etc.

Now, if only they'll get the Kinnikinnick donuts and some GF lasagna

noodles.................. :-)

Don't eat the sprouted wheat bread.

Your friend means well. But ignorance can hurt. :-( He'll learn, in

time, if he's a good friend.

One of the first things my doctor told me when he set me on this

adventure was, " People will tell you that you can eat Ezekiel bread.

Don't. "

Apparently it is a common misconception.

Thank you sooo much! I am glad I asked, I

realize it doesn’t hurt to ask, it can hurt to assume. I am hoping that

this gf education will get out to more grocery stores, we need as much help on

our side, and what if someone listens to that manager you spoke with! They

could end up in bed for a week recovering from a sandwich made with the bread.

Very sad

Thank you :o)

People will also try to tell you that spelt is o.k. It is NOT and I am

pleased to say the FDA is actually taking action under the new

labeling laws against producers of spelt bread who label their product

as safe for those with wheat allergy/intolerance.

Hi JudyLynn,

It is nice to have well meaning friends

that are concerned enough to take the time to find good tasting food for

us. Unfortunately, “sprouted” bread is NOT safe for celiacs

or people who are gluten intolerant. Best of luck to you.
