Thanks, Suzi > Do you mean lactose-free or dairy-free? They are definitely different; you can make quite good GF bread with Lactaid lactose-free milk. However, it would not be dairy-free. Guest guest
when you say non-gross (and i totally know what you mean!!!) substitute, do you mean that it actually tastes ok if you drink it, or it tastes ok if you put it in something baked... There are soy and almond powdered subs that work well in baking, but I wouldn't try drinking them... > > Suggestions? Guest guest
There is also a powdered rice milk (Better Than Milk brand) and a product called DariFree http://www.vancesfoods.com/ Both work fine/taste fine in recipes. I don't care for the taste of either to drink, but I have used the DariFree to make an awesome milk free " ice cream " for my dairy allergic son. I've special ordered the rice milk powder from Whole Foods and you can buy the DariFree from the above website or through http://www.azurestandard.com/. Guest guest
this may be a stretch..... but could you try to use some instant mashed potatoes... but diluted a bit? also, I have used a can of cannellini beans (white northern beans) and pureed them in my mini cuisinart thingie to get a " mush " that I have used to thicken things like gravies, sauces, chili, etc. Melonie > > Suggestions?
