O.K. folks...I'm under stress and fighting off old food habits one year out.

I opened the fridge his am and found a blender full of...? when did I make

it/ It seems I made bakers coca and instant non-fat milk in an attempt for

a soothing hot chocolate..never seen here in about 10 years. I threw away

graham crackers and 2! jars of peanut butter. Now get a grip. I have made

my morning protein drink and am sipping it slowly. I have 1/4 cup of yogurt

mixed with oatmeal...small. my lunch box is filled with salad/scallops and

crystal lite...and my 20 oz h20 is ready to roll. I have just come back

from a dog jog and I'm taking my zoloff. This is I'm sure related to the

recent events and although it has been said on the lists we should not go

into it I need to say; I was born in Lenox Hill Hosp.NYC; grew up in

OysterBay NY, lived on East 7th street and had a store for 10 years in

Chelsea. My best friend lives? in Independence Square(the worlds largest

apt.bldg. since 1976 when it was built( eight blocks from liberty square

where the towers were) my nephew's wife has NOT been found as she got off at

the battery to drop the child at day care(he's ok) When my kids were

growing up we named the twin towers Jimmy, the Chrsler bldg Lilly and the

Empire state bldg ann. They are in a book I wrote. So I too have NYC

roots. I've lit candles, put up flags and prayed my mantra om shanti om

(which stands for world peace) but the fridge reflects my blackouts. Help

Priscilla Please don't ignore my post as being too off subject thankyou!

Hey Priscilla certainly no one on this list has said its

off topic or not to talk about it. I think if folks are

worried, nervous, angry whatever and its affecting them,

their food choices, relationships with food, etc then talk

about it!

Its hard especially when you do have those NYC roots. When

the WTC and surrounding tragedies occured I was horrified

and saddened and to be honest down right scared! However I

thought there was no one I could possibly know involved in

this. Now I've heard of 3 different folks who I have

interacted with even albeit briefly and I just can't

believe how many people this has touched.

I know I found myself turning towards some peanut butter

cups I found in the freezer. After I had indulged in about

3 of them I asked myself what the heck was I doing or would

this accomplish? I guess I had hoped for a comforting

feeling to surround me a I feel so anxious right now .. but

I didn't get it .. and I had the kids and dh polish off the

rest of them.

What helps the most is talking about it .. to know you are

not alone, there are others who care about you & are

thinking about you .. and together and your post is

appropriate and much appreciated!

Now I hope you have a good day foodwise and health wise and

emotional wise :)

Priscilla,

I can really empathize with all your feelings regarding the recent tragic

events. As I stated in my previous post, this hit way to close to home. I

too grew up in the NYC area and all my family still lives there. I feel

isolated being here in New Hampshire away from all of them at a time like

this. The fear and vulnerability and the absolute horror of it all is, at

times, overwhelming.

Like Dawn suggested, doing something helps a little, though I suspect there’

s a lot of us folks that will need quite of bit of healing time before we

feel anything close to normal again. It does help to talk about it and to

join together with others in some sort of memorial effort. This has had an

impact on so many people on so many levels that I’m sure as a nation we’ll

see resulting post traumatic syndrome to a greater or lesser degree.

Focusing on the extraordinary heroism and how our country is pulling

together is also helpful.

I must say I’m very impressed and inspired on how your handing your food

issues.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I know it’s been very helpful to me.

Hi Priscilla,

I'm sorry you are going through a difficult time. I don't quite

understand (from personal experience) about the sleep eating or

whatever you're doing but I do know it is a real and serious

condition. I can say that I too have been struggling with a lot of

preoccupation with food and mindless eating that scares me. I know

it's because I'm stressed about the tragedy that is all-pervasive at

this point. All I can offer is some support by letting you know I'm

sitting in the same boat as you are. You are not alone. Also, as

others have pointed out, it does sound like you are doing a great job

of 'rescuing' yourself in this time of crisis. Good for you!
