Guest guest
A dumb question from a non-cook -- but this sounds SO good I want to make it soon! ........ What kind of pan do you bake it in, a pie plate, a cake pan, round or square? ..... thank you!

Guest guest
thanks for that info. I probably would have just dumped it into a pie plate and hoped for the best!
Guest guest
This sounded really good and since I have all the stuff... I just mixed up a pan and we'll see what the critics here have to say. I also added ground up walnuts mixed with a little cinnamon and sugar on top of the apples. It's in the oven now and smells really yummy already and will be a nice treat for a very cold evening. :-) Polish Apple cake 1 3/4 cup sugar 1 cup salad oil 3 eggs 1/2 tsp. salt 2 cups GF flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. vanilla 2 cups chopped apples (I've always used Granny ) Mix all but apple together. Add apples. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar when cool.

Guest guest
I used Vegetable Oil (I wouldn't use Olive oil for a dessert, canola oil should be ok too) and I used Bette Hagman's Gluten Free Gourmet Flour. But for recipes like this I would use any of the Gluten free all purpose flours I have on hand. Right now I have Beths, and Bette's and Bob's Redmill. I just happened to grab whichever I saw first. :-) Polish Apple cake 1 3/4 cup sugar 1 cup salad oil 3 eggs 1/2 tsp. salt 2 cups GF flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. vanilla 2 cups chopped apples (I've always used Granny ) Mix all but apple together. Guest guest
I used a regular cake pan and it came out fine, I imagine a bundt pan or deep pie pan would work too. Guest guest
I ate it fresh from the oven too but everyone else waited a bit... then I left the pan sitting on the stove and every time my husband or the kids go into the kitchen I see them go over to the stove and 'sneak' a bite!! My computer room is just off the kitchen so I know when anyone is in there and I can see the fridge and stove from here. It's too funny. And my son couldn't believe it was Gluten Free and I was sharing with everyone. I might just have to make more tomorrow. Gotta love a good, easy, GF recipe!!! :-) in VA Re: Polish Apple cake , after reading your post, I made the cake too and it just came out of the oven. I'm on my 2nd piece and its still hot enough to burn my mouth, but its so good! Walnuts would be a great addition to this. I used Beths all purpose GF flour and vegetable oil. My pan was a rectangular glass baking dish and I used some slightly dried out wrinkly-skinned gala apples that I found in the back of the fridge :-) It still turned out great Thanks for sharing this recipe!!! -
Guest guest
I used Canola oil and Bob's All Purpose. I'm not a big fan of Bob's in other recipes, but it was handy and I couldn't tell the difference. I have to admit that in our family, we very rarely get to putting on the powdered sugar! Guest guest
Thanks so much for sharing the recipe , it's wonderful!! Mine sank just a little in the middle but that had no effect on the taste!! Since my family knows it's GF they were kind enough to save some for me and I'm enjoying it for breakfast with my coffee!!! My daughter even came in this moring and said if it weren't GF she'd ask for some .... kind of her way of asking without feeling guilty I guess. But since it doesn't take much flour and the rest of the ingredients aren't expensive I told them they don't need to worry about eating it too. I sure as heck don't need to be eating the whole pan myself!! So of course then she hurried to get some in case I decided to change my mind!! What I really like is now I have something good and easy to make when I have friends over for coffee or I need a dessert for a pot luck (not that I've been to one since Diagnosis, but just in case.) :-) in VA Re: Polish Apple cake I hope it came out well for you. There wasn't a crumb left from mine Oh, I forgot to mention that I did put in a tsp. of xantham, but I'm not real sure it needed it?!?! Guest guest
Could someone please clarify what type of "salad oil" is used for this cake? I'd like to try it... Thanks, Cheryl
Guest guest
Glad it spans the generations I made the cake this weekend for my mother's 60th birthday! On Tue, 7 Feb 2006 11:22:28 -0500, Adeena Pentland wrote > My family thanks you, too! It is so quick and easy, and YUMMY! My ds2, who will be 5 in March, has decided that he wants " apple take " instead of traditional birthday cake for his birthday. I also topped it with walnuts, and didn't use xanthan gum. We will DEFINITELY be making this one again. ~Adeena > > > Thanks so much for sharing the recipe , it's wonderful!! > > >
