OT If I were President W. Bush's Speech Writer.

> ****Contains profanity***** WARNING

I understand people's need to relieve their stress in various ways, even through

humor, at a time like this. And the story started out good. I liked the *idea*

of it -- saying to them " what the HELL did you think you were doing? Hello?! "

But as soon as it diverted into racist remarks and talk of bombing a nation of

95% innocent civilians who barely have food, let alone places to live and who

live under a repressive regime and don't share the views of that regime, it

turned offensive.

It could have continued to be funny without those remarks and even though it is

just humor, humor can hurt a lot of people. If you were a member of one of the

groups mentioned, would *you* think it was funny? This country is supposed to be

about embracing all people, yet we are constantly hearing about people being

beaten or killed because they " look " Arabic or Muslim. Or because they have dark

skin. Or because they are gay or thought to be gay. Making light of these people

makes them seem less like human beings and so some people can use that to

justify their existing prejudices.

At a time like this, we need to be circumspect and watch what we say and do so

as to set a good example for our kids and other people.

Peace, love and chocolate to you all.

Well put, Neil.

I thought it was okay for me to make public the fact that I was appalled

at the racist sentiments sent around. I understood the anger and humor

contained in the email, but the race-slamming is something that shocked

me.

Lyssa, I don't expect you to monoter the emails. In fact, all I really

expected was for people to think before they post. This topic has come

up so much lately, I know. I figured we wouldn't have to discuss it

again, and I refrained from all previous discussions because I agreed to

check the topic line and read what I wanted. I simply wasn't prepared

for the racial slurs I would find in this email.

The person who sent it apologized, and I appreciated that... until she

made a sarcastic remark about some people having no sense of humor. I

have a fantastic sense of humor, and am no prude by a long shot, but I

think racist remarks cross the line.

Lyssa, I'm sorry this offends you. I've been a part of list for quite

some time, and I don't think I've ever gotten involved in ANY negative

exchanges. I've always tried to be supportive of everyone, and defend

our different points of view. I feel that I am the minority here as far

as finding that email offensive, and frankly, that scares the crap out

of me. If I thought this could be resolved in a civil manner, I'd hang

around, but with the way people are treating each other around here

these days, I think I'm better off Unsubscribing from this list.

Thanks to everyone who's given me such great support over the past year

and a half, and I hope I've helped others along the way.

I have immediate family members of these groups (my daughter and her father

are Japanese) and I did not find it offensive and neither did they. If you

see an e mail with words in it that you don't like delete it or scroll past

it if you aren't able to delete it.

Alice,

I do hope you change your mind about unsubscribing from the list

because I find your postings always very insightful but I too am getting

tired of the way people with another opinion are treated on this list. I'm

not saying it's Lyssa's or Lea's fault by any means but I thought we could

just understand each other's opinion without smart remarks or being told to

get over it. It would so nice to say that " I respectfully disagree with you

but.....' Like I said before, I frankly don't care if people think I'm a

prude or without a sense of humor but we do have a right to state our

opinions without derision.

Thanks Kim,

It was really so great to see you and Dawn again the other night.

I like to thing you're right. Anyone who really knows me will know that I do

have a good, if not bizarre sense of humor. By the way, you look really

fabulous. Eventually you will see it too LOL
