What I like about these books is that they talk in english, even the most technical topic is understandable. I think these started out as computer help books, and have evolved in to just about any topic imaginable. And now, Gluten-Free. The "for Dummies" is more aimed at people who don't speak the "language" of the topic involved, and really need it broken down in terms that are easy to understand and grasp.

When I first started seeing the "For Dummies" titles, I was offended."I'll NEVER buy a book with that title."And then... years later... I found myself in a position of needing tolearn something technical in both a hurry AND a vacuum. So, "ForDummies" to the rescue! I discovered that I really enjoy the books. Iwould not hesitate to pick up an F.D. book, buy one for a friend, recommend one to any one. They're great. They're technically good andhumorous. Adding humor makes some technically opaque things becomeeasier to remember, at least for people with my kind of learning style(whatever THAT is!).I can't WAIT to read the new FD book about gluten! Is it March yet????? :-)Esther in RI

I don't find it offensive but for those who do...maybe the title "For Newbies" would work?

Well, that and it is already a published SERIES of books. It's not just one title, it's zillions. And I doubt "The Dummies" group is going to change their successful name! For those who have never had the joy of reading one of their series: http://www.dummies.com/WileyCDA/

I'm sticking with Dummies! Personally I'm not offended and as I'm not a "newbie" in this but still find myself here asking questions and learning new things all the time I'd hate to "limit" the time I could use this book :)On Thu, 26 Jan 2006 14:45:30 -0000, esther_p210 wrote> > >> > I don't find it offensive but for those who do...maybe the title> "For Newbies" would work?> >> > Or "For those who have to feed us, at least on occasion". Thank you for saying that. I don't think that people are

understanding that it isn't something new. The name has been around

for many many years. They are good books and it's not meant to be

offensive. I bet all of us could learn something from that book.
