You are probably having so much trouble finding a hotel in Oakland

near the hospital because starting on August 23 the University of

Pittsburgh has new student orientation. I am sure all the parents

have booked rooms for those few days. If you couldn't find anything

in Oakland...you will have to go further out. How far did you want to

go?

I don't want to deal with much traffic. His appointment at Children's is at 9AM. Is it a bear to get in? I don't want to deal with a ton of traffic issues, so I guess think of the easiest route with the least delays...avoiding that stinking tunnel.

I just have no clue.

Thank you,

Our prayers are with you and your family, especially Noah, and prayers for skill and wisdom in his doctors. I sure hope you are successful in finding a place to stay very near the hospital to minimize the added stress on you. You do not need to deal with traffic, directions, the tunnels, etc. It would be very good for you if somehow, something can be found nearby. I pray you can find accommodations, which may be worth an added expense.

When Joe had his J-pouch surgery at the Texas Medical Center in 1999, I was fortunate to be able to stay at a hotel that actually had a walkway over the main street (Fannin) connecting Methodist Hospital and the Marriott! It sure decreased stress and I was able to sleep better and still be there for Joe whenever he needed me within about 5 -10 minutes 24/7!

Thank you so much for the prayers. I sure do need them these days. Noah got very ill Sunday and has continued to have some bouts of nausea and general grouchiness that is not normal.

I can't wait to get him scoped to see what is up. It has only been a year. He should be stable but is seeming not to be with additional diarrhea.

You may be out of luck with not wanting to deal with lots of traffic.

Unfortunately with the morning rush hour and the Pitt students moving

in, traffic is inevitable. If you want to stay in Oakland...the hotel

listing Ali gave you is the best. She listed them all. You want to

avoid staying in Greentree because you will have to deal with the

tunnels. The downtown hotels are expensive during the week with

business travelers. Perhaps you will be willing to stay in the

suburbs. We live about 1/2 hour from Oakland and sometimes it takes

45-60 minutes to get into Oakland at that hour, but it isn't so bad.

It may be worth it for you to help with the cost factor. Hopefully

being on the list for Family House will come through. The Family

Houses are very comfortable and prices are very reasonable.

I do hope Noah feels better soon and that you get some answers and effective treatment for his symptoms. It is so unfair that our children should suffer. Prayers are sent your way.

Thank you so much Joanne. I just had no idea what all the regions are called. I appreciate your help in that matter. So as far as housing...is there a preference between RMD, Family House and the other one--I forget the name?

I guess we won't know until the night we arrive as to which if any we could have.

I might try Priceline.

Thankfully when we go out to Ohio for Zoë's soccer over Labor day I am sharing a room with another two moms...so that will cut my costs there.

Enjoy your pleasant weather over there this weekend. We sure are.
