Guest guest
Hi Kendall, Janine in Canada here. I had upper surgery April 15th and lost 10 lbs. I went through/am going through the same thing you're going through. I was so happy to have lost those nagging pounds I started to weigh myself everyday and scrutinize everything I put into my mouth. I was also getting worried about developing an eating disorder (I was a gymnast and dancer as a teen and had a bout of bulimia), but am happy to say that while I haven't gained any weight back, I also haven't lost any more. In fact, I find I'm now eating healthier than ever and working out regularly (not the crazed incessant workout associated with eating disorders). I just choose to put the BEST calories I can in my system, high in protein, low in fat, nutrient rich. I eat three meals a day, and two to three snacks ( things like V-8 juice, bananas, milk etc) and 6-8 glasses of water a day. So, to make a long post short, what I wanted to say was it's okay to be concerned about what types of calories you're eating, as long as you're still eating and nourishing your body sufficiently - not starving yourself and dropping drastic amounts of weight. If you have had an eating disorder in the past, you'll know the symptoms - and if you feel you might be developing an eating disorder, please talk to your doctor immediately. You're body has been through enough trauma recently. I hope this helps. Janine

Guest guest
Well, there is never any sense in being scared and worried about things you can't change. The tears, etc are a reddish-orange, and in most of the cases I've seen it's not a brilliant color but more a orangish (to my eye) strong tint that you can see through....like a tinted serum, if you know what I mean. It tints the urine, sweat, feces, tears and saliva. And if you wear contacts, wear your glasses during this time as it can stain contacts. It will wash out of your clothing, if your clothing gets stained, though. If your skin gets yellowish, though the kind that won't wash off, call the Doc right away and he'll do labs....which he will do after you complete the med anyway. Since he has ordered both the Rifampin and the Cipro, I'm betting that your labs will show either (or both) Staph aureus or Staph epidermis.....the combination therapy is routine in the case of either of those. It is also used for treatment of asyptomatic carriers of a kind of meningitis...which I only mention because of the mosquito bites...but I doubt that is the case with you or he would have given you many other precautions, etc. I wouldn't be scared as it is most likely one of the Staphs and the combo therapy is routine for them. He no doubt definitely wants to avoid the infection settling in the joint....especially since it is right at the elbow. If your elbow was better before you started the meds, it is most likely on the trail to being healed, so there isn't anything to worry about and he is making sure it is knocked out, considering your other health problems and the fact that you are on prednisone (I think?) and Remicade. Hugs, Kathy Should I be worried? Sorry if this turns out to be long - I need to start at the beginning. A few weeks ago (don't remember just when) I had a lot of mosquito bites. The itchy bump on my left elbow seemed to be just another one, so I treated it with cortisone cream. One morning my whole elbow looked ugly - red, scaly skin, swollen, hot (still a bit itchy). This was the day I had my regular visit with my PCP, so I showed him. He put me on Levaquin, which I finished & my elbow got better but not well. I went back last week & he removed 2 cc fluid from my elbow & sent it out for testing; didn't inject it because he wanted to see the lab report first (thank goodness!). Yesterday, doc's office called to tell me the lab report showed showed there "might be some infection" (downplaying it so I won't get upset?), then explained the meds I'll be taking for it. My elbow was feeling better before I started the meds, so I had decided it was nothing. I started Rifampin & Cipro last night - once a day for 10 days. I'm no dummy - these are powerful antibiotics, aren't they? I've never taken Rifampin before & I don't look forward to the red tears, etc. Kathy, will I sweat red too? GI doc said I can get the Remicade 9/7 as planned, since I'll be finished with the meds before then. I'll be getting a copy of the lab report - probably today. I have to admit my first reaction was that I'm scared. Should I be? What do you think? Guest guest
Except that those of us with a high risk for liver disease, or liver disease for that matter, shouldn't use DEET. And I find that if DEET gets near any mucous membranes ( eyelids, lips and uh....lower down, LOL) I have more than the usual problems with numbness ...specifically in those areas...and my head feels weird. I know we should use it for the mosquitos...West Nile is up here also, although this year there have only been a couple of deaths....but I choose to not use any product with DEET in it. Most of the time I forget to use anything. Last week I was getting out of the hot tub and sitting on the porch watching TV or just listening to the woods right around dusk. Then I found that I was getting bit...most of my bites aren't mosquito bites, though. I think most of them are from gnats....which I really react to, big red welts.....you should see my back and my right arm! Kathy Should I be worried? Guest guest
That's the most common problem associated with them. I did have one patient that had both the neuropathy and severe liver damage. She had worked for years cleaning a particular local restaurant after it closed in the evening. They had heavily used insecticide sprays each night after closing and she was in there cleaning while they did it. For over ten years, I think. That's what they tied her illness to. But of course that restaurant had been closed for years by the time she got sick. Kathy RE: Should I be worried?
