>Hi April

I had my explant two weeks ago and the pain was VERY minor. I took

tylenol 3 the day I had the surgery done and that was it. I could

have maybe even gotten by without them. I did ice for the first

couple of hours after explant. You will be fine. the pain is

nothing like having them put in at all!! good luck. when are you

having the surgery done?? and who is doing it?

Thanks, Leanne. I am having a consultation with Dr. Melmed soon. He

is out for the holidays right now so I left a message. My " gut " is

telling me that he is the surgeon for me, but I will know better after

I meet with him. I am having the surgery as soon as he can fit me in.

I am scared about it, but ready to get it over with.

Leanne, I forgot to ask you a few questions. How long did your surgery

take? Did you have local or general? How did you feel after you woke

up?

I had local for my BA surgery. I woke up pretty groggy and got nauseous

a few hours after the surgery, but I've heard general is much worse.

So what's your recovery been like so far? Did you have drains? I'm a

little freaked out about those.

Hi April- I don't tolerate prescription pain killers either. I had my

percocet filled just in case I needed it, but didn't after my explant.

I used darvocet (the only prescription pain medication I can tolerate)

for the first 2 days and then just extra strength tylenol. Just get

yourself some extra strength tylenol and you should do just fine. Yes,

explant is much easier then implant.

April- I just had my explant 7 weeks ago. I'll answer your questions

and Leanne can too.

My explant took an hour and a half. I had general anesthesia. I felt

great when I woke up. The anesthesiologist knew I get nauseas from

anesthesia so she gave me a dramamine right before I went in for

surgery. I'm not sure if she put anything else in my IV, but I did not

get nauseous at all. Just make sure you tell your anesthesiologist

ahead of time and they will take precautions for you.

The recovery is not bad all. This was probably me easiest surgery so

far and I've had 4. Basically you want to take the same precautions as

you did with implant, lay on the couch for a few days, take it easy

for a few weeks, and don't do anything strenuous for a month. The

drains aren't bad either. I was TOTALLY freaked out by them. But, I

couldn't even feel them, honestly. The 3 days went by quick and then

they were gone. Don't get too worried about those because I did and I

really shouldn't have.

You'll do great and once it over with, you'll be so glad!

Thanks for saying this, Krista; I am not looking forward to those

drains, either, although now I understand they are necessary to drain

away fluid and infectious stuff. The pictures do look kind of scary,

to be sure. I get nauseaous as well, so thanks also for the

recommendation to tell the anesthesiologist ahead of time. I was

horribly nauseaous after my BA and had to tolerate just a half hour

car ride through the city to my best friend's home, but it felt like

an eternity, and I'm sure I was green the whole time. I must have

missed it, but how long did you have your implants in for, and were

they ruptured at all? From what I'm reading, that has a lot of weight

in determining how long the surgery takes...

Hugs to you,

Devon

Hi Devon- I haven't been posting for a a few weeks, I had family in

town so I had to take an internet break. To answer your questions, I

had salines for 4 years. I did have a rupture this past spring on my

left side (nothing caused it, just woke up one morning with it

deflated.) I did have the implant replaced, but my health started to

decline over the next 9 months. After finding this group and a few

others, I decided to have the implants removed permanently, it was the

best decision I've made. My PS (Dr. Huang) said my explant took

as long as it did because I had a lot of scar tissue that she had to

remove. I was glad to hear she took her time with the explant and made

sure to get it all removed.

Yeah, don't worry about the drains too much. They weren't bad at all!

Glad I could help!

April,

Explant is so much easier, IMHO... I didn't need them meds, but I did get a pain pump, it was optional... So hard for me to say... I know it was a breeze, compared to getting them and the sickness from them... I guess I was a bit relieved as in Thank God there Gone...
