Guest guest
I usually wear a nursing tank top underneath all my button down shirt or sweaters. That way I dont have my belly showing when I lift up the shirt on top. I have no problem nursing in public. I would be more embarrased giving my baby a bottle in public. Guest guest
I think that you are right not to be embarrassed, there is nothing to be embarrased about. The most discreet is a nursing shirt. The blanket does draw attention to what you are doing. But I had no problem nursing in public under blanket or with a normal shirt. Next time they tell you that everyone knows what you are doing say " so? " with a look that implies they have just made a really stupid observation. The elderly women are smiling because nursing is sweet; like they smile at cute babies. Lynn Public Nursing I wanted to know how many of you nurse in public and how do you do it discreetly? The only way I know how is with a blanket over their head. My family is asking how I can do it without being embarrassed and I don't see what the problem is because they can't see anything. They say that everyone knows what I am doing. Do you think people have a problem with it because I mostly get a lot of smiles from strangers, especially elderly women. Guest guest
I started out using nursing shirts that had the crop top style flap rather than vertical slits. I didn't like how they made me look like I was still pregnant so I got a few nursing tank tops and use button downs over them. No one knows I'm nursing except for those who already know that we breastfeed. Joanna > I wanted to know how many of you nurse in public and how do you do it discreetly? Guest guest
Hi , I nurse in public and haven't had any problems from other people. I've found it much easier if you only have the nursing child with you. It gets a little more tricky when you have other young children with you. A lot of people on the list use a sling, which sounds like a great idea to me even though I never used one. Last week I had to nurse Sam in Walmart while shopping with my older daughters which wasn't a problem, but I can't nurse him in Shop-rite while shopping with only the younger kids - I just don't have enough hands lol - I need two carts so I need both hands free. I make sure to nurse him in the car right before going in and hope he makes it thru the trip. Joan

Guest guest
I've never been shy about nursing in public! I've nursed my youngest, walking down the aisles at Target! I don't use blankets, because they're just too cumbersome. I always wear a nursing shirt or dress out in public, and that really offers all the protection I would need. I purchased all of mine at Motherwear, and always on sale (every time I go in, they have at least one or two styles half-price, especially at a time like now, in between seasons) Public Nursing I wanted to know how many of you nurse in public and how do you do it discreetly? Guest guest
I forgot to add something, too!! I think nursing in public is very important!! How else will women know that it's a normal event after you have a little one?? The more others see nursing moms out in public, the more 'routine' it will become. My LLL leader nurses her 4 year old in public for this same reason. She has never had a bad word spoken toward her or her son and what better way for nursing toddlers to become more mainstream. I know that I'd never seen a nursing toddler until I attended my first LLL meeting, and I didn't even know they did such a thing! I wish I could've encountered someone like my LLL leader at a ballgame, the skating rink, or at the movies, proudly nursing her preschoooler! Just my $.02 -- adjusted for inflation, of course! Guest guest
I nurse in public. I have never used blankets. My babies did not like their heads to be covered. I have no problem nursing my 2 year old in public either. I have only had one negative comment in my whole nursing time. That is not too bad. After the first couple of times it got very easy. a Ross & Henne wrote: I wanted to know how many of you nurse in public and how do you do it discreetly? Guest guest
I could never get the blanket thing down b/c it would always fall off my shoulder while Blake was latching on. I am different from everyone else b/c I hate nursing shirts. I have a few, but I just don't like them. I recently bought a nursing cape that I love! I just used it this weekend for the first time on a trip from Tucson to NW Arkansas. I used it on the plane and in the airports. I also used it at the mall and I think it is the best thing ever invented. Guest guest
I nurse wherever we are, I don't pump so we don't use any bottles until they maybe get a little juice, and this time I'm going to try to skip bottles altogether and go right to a cup. I wear shirts I can easily lift (baby covers midriff), I have a couple of nursing tops. I often wear shirts with a vest over them for even more discreet nursing. I don't like using a blanket over their heads, if I have my sling on or a blanket around them, I sometimes pull it up a little so it shields their heads from view.
