Guest guest
Kathi, The recipe is already in the files on the Silly Yak website. I called it "Muffin Mix To Go" because I separated the dry ingredients which I make up ahead of time when we go RV camping or visiting. It's really easy to make up several sets of dry ingredients, not much longer than it takes to make up one. It makes baking the muffins a real cinch. My kids like it when we divide the dough and add different things to each bowl. We add some fresh or frozen blueberries to one, cocoa powder and chocolate chips to another, and cinnamon and raisins to a third. The girls also mix a little milk with some powdered sugar to make a dipping glaze, especially good with the cinnamon-raisin variety. They like the mini size so they can sample them all. Have fun! Re: old cookbooks... from BC Ok...Cough up the recipes! Muffins would be wonderful...especially if I don't have to work so darn hard!!kathi in houston....I have the BC cookbook....one of the firstones....like from the 50's? It's up on the top shelf where Iwon't mess it up....realistically, it's probably rotting! hehe use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to the Yahoo! Terms of Service. Guest guest
I just used my BC cookbook the other day. This BC stands for Betty Crocker, hee hee. There are still a ton of recipes that are either already GF, or can easily be made GF. I'm not adventurous enough (yet) to try converting my regular baking recipes, but I know some people have figured out how to do even that! --Trudy San , CA "People who believe in absurdities will eventually commit atrocities." ~Voltaire -------------- Original message -------------- Just wondering if others keep or get rid of old cookbooks from thedays BC (before celiac)?I'm tempted to give myself the personal challenge of converting allrecipes to GF.Then I get so depressed and just want to take a pitchfork and throwthem all in a dumpster.Do old BC cookbooks challenge you, or make you sad, or both? What have you done with your BC cookbooks?Esther, who used to LOVE collecting cookbooks..... Guest guest
Just took my " Joy of Cooking " out of my shelf to see if it had a GF section. Mine was a wedding present back in 1990. Nope. No GF section. I looked in the index for " gluten " and found the recipe for making extra-high gluten bread. Don't need THAT recipe! :-) But I did find a " coupon " from my then-fiance for something nice. We've been married almost 16 years now, so the coupon was a real blast from the past. It even had his address and phone number from where he lived when we met! We've lived in three different places since the wedding so this was a REAL shocker to him, as it was four addresses ago that he wrote that coupon. I guess one of these days I should cash it. Now that I know exactly where it's hidden.

Guest guest
Laurie, I've started the same thing, my own gf favorites cookbook. I haven't had the heart yet to go through my original favorites binder I had just reorganized last spring. I'm sure there are many good recipes in there I can still use. Sigh. Oh well, all that work for nothing. I also use my Joy of Cooking all the time. I never thought about all the flour that must be in it. Hmm. Cross-contamination from a cookbook... Do post your scone recipe when you get it right. It sounds yummy. Laurie " Laurie Bilyeu " wrote: >Hi Esther, > >I'm with you on the cookbook conundrum. I love cookbooks. Guest guest
WOW! Is it a special edition? That's cool! Trudy RE: old cookbooks... from BC Hi Esther, I’m with you on the cookbook conundrum. I love cookbooks. I’m looking at my four shelves of cookbooks (and additional shelf of food mags) and sighing these days. I was already sighing before going gf because so many of them don’t support the weight loss and weight maintenance program I’ll also need to be on for the rest of my life J I think I’ll let go of some of them—“How To Bake” for instance, which is gorgeous but very wheat based. There’s no hurry, though. I might skip through them and see if there are any gf gems I’d never have noticed. I’m starting my own personal cookbook in a 3 ring binder. The recipe card thing just doesn’t work anymore anyway since I print so many recipes from online. I might copy some recipes out of the less usable cookbooks to put in my binder then let go of the cookbook itself. I’ll need the shelf space for the new gf cookbooks I’ll just have to have… I’m interested in converting my favorite recipes, but not in the ones I’ve never tried anyway. There’s a multigrain scone that we’ve really loved. I almost succeeded last week with a good imitation. I’ll post it when I get it right. There’s no need to let go of the Joy of Cooking-I consult it for everything. Except it just occurred to me that there’s probably flour all over the baking pages of that one! Hmmm. Someone spilled coffee on it once—Maybe I deserve a new one? I might let go of “The More with Less Cookbook” , though I do approve of the philosophy of simplicity there, most of the recipes are wheat or barley-based and high-fat to boot. Laurie lbilyeu@...
