Guest guest
I recently realized that something had changed and I honestly think it's because of the xifaxin, since that's the only major med change this year. In Feb. or March, my dr. switched me to xifaxin for the HE (hepatic encephalopathy), and it has really done a marvelous job of controlling that. Last week, for the first time since Nov. 2005, my ammonia level is normal!!! Now for the odd part -- I've realized I'm able to eat things I haven't enjoyed in years and years .... tomatoes, green beans, fresh pears and apples, even mild salsa! The only thing I can attribute it to is the xifaxin. Since it's an antibiotic which works only in the gut, my theory is that some of the toxins, naturally produced during digestion, had been causing some of the irritation which kept my Crohn's in a constant state of unrest. Has anyone else experienced this with xifaxin? Alternately, does anyone have an alternate theory as to why I can eat properly for the first time in over 25 years?
