Guest guest
Pam, With having PCOS myself I can tell you that even when I ate nothing I still gained weight until I started on Metformin. With the insulin resistance it caused a whole list of other problems. Please do not let the fact she isn't failure to thrive make you second guess. There is such a huge range of symptoms that just like PCOS causes it to be harder to diagnose. I hope you can find an answer and get her feeling better. Gluten Free makes me feel good and it taste good too!

Guest guest
Laurie, PCOS is Polyistic Ovarian Syndrome. It affects a woman's mestral cycle, causes Insulin Resistance, hormone inbalance, weight gain, as well as other problems. Diagnosing can be a nightmare (like it was for me) because the symptoms vary from one person to another. It is also an autoimmune problem. Gluten Free makes me feel good and it taste good too! Guest guest
I had never been told pcos is an autoimmune ailment. I was dx’d with pcos 10 years ago, before it was in magazines. I was always told it was a hormonal problem, that fed into other problems, like ir, heart issues, etc. If you know of any website with more info, please advise. Guest guest
The nurse told me PCOS is an autoimmune disease. I do not have any documentation on it. I do know that thyroid problems and PCOS go hand in hand along with other problems. Gluten Free makes me feel good and it taste good too! Guest guest
, I don't know what PCOS is and how it relates to CD. I am seeing that Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue seem to relate to CD. I have fibro and CFS. Since my son has CD, I'm wanting my doctor to run the bloodwork on me. He told me to just go off wheat and everything would be fine. He definitely doesn't understand CD. If I can get the medical term and coding for the bloodtest I need to have, I will just tell him to run it. I want to know if all of my fatigue is truly CFS and Fibro or maybe just CD. Life would just be easier if I knew one way or the other. By the way, I made Betty Hagman's breadstick recipe that is in the archives. They are absolutely delicious! I had melted butter and garlic powder to dip them in, next time, I'll have a spicy cheese sauce for my son. Anyway, I'm thrilled to find some of the basics that he likes to replace what he lose Thanks for your help! Judy

Guest guest
Wow, what a fabulous group this is! I'm so glad I found you all! Thanks for all the replies regarding my 12 year old daughter (I was the orignial poster.) Her blood work came out normal, but her pediatrician said it would be a good idea for her to see the GI specialist anyway. (There is a pediatric GI specialist here who has CD and knows a huge amount about it.) So she could still have CD with normal bloodwork, is that correct??? I am so confused. With regard to the PCOS---I have read that there is some kind of autoimmune connection, but I don't think they know for sure how it connects with autoimmune illness, etc. But many people with PCOS have autoimmune illnesses. The poll idea is great!! Keep in mind, most people with PCOS don't even know they have it. And the symptoms vary so much. From what I understand, most people with PCOS are overweight and have a lot of hair on their body (too much testosterone.) I have PCOS, as well as my daughter, and I am " hairy " LOL, but I was always thin until my 40's. The doctor says that because I was an athlete in high school, that is why. Many people with PCOS have trouble with infertility isuues, but I never did. I also have Sjogren's Syndrome and " Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease " which acts like lupus--all autoimmune. I'm so glad I found this group. Interestingly, the same day that the pediatrician suggested that CD could be my daughter's problem, my sister's doctor said the same thing about my sister. She has had GI problems all her life. Pam P. Missouri, USA > > The nurse told me PCOS is an autoimmune disease. I do not have any > documentation on it. Guest guest
I am not sure if the symptoms can mask endometriosis. I do know the first doctor I saw would only look into endometriosis and wanted to schedule me for exploratory surgery and I did not want to go there. I switched doctors and it took me a long time to finally get diagnosed. You can go on google and do a search for "PCOS" and see if there is a link. Sorry I cannot be more help. Guest guest
They really are different things. But you could have both endo and pcos. Ask your ob-gyn for a prescription to draw blood. Its best diagnosed by comparing the lh and fsh hormone. If your dr. balks, or doesn’t seem to know much about it, get a new dr. A couple of vials of blood is really easy, and no big deal if you have insurance. You should demand it. If its negative, you can worry about 1 less thing.
