lay'n in the bathroom floor with the door shut, heat on, light off and a

pillow to lay my head on, one to put over my head and a blanket to cover up

with...they are horrible...oh I use ear plugs too, because the slightest noise

sounds like a megaphone...its horrible...You deffinately are not alone. God

Some drugs now can act as migriane prevention..

they don't help after you have the migraine.. but

I know neurontin is one of them.. I went from

20-25 migraines a month.. to 3-4.. and another

maybe topomax.. not entirely sure aobut that but

I think that is one..

Yep, it's true, at least according to my Neurologist. I asked him about

them, and he told me that unfortunately, they are, or can be, a big problem

for people with fibromyalgia. I don't have any big suggestions for you.

I've found that although I have at least one every afternoon, it never quite

gets so bad that I need my migraine medicine, because I already have a lot

of pain meds in me. Again, the Dr. says that's normal too. I've found

quiet, and a dark room help.

Carol

I have a question? Can anyone answer for me?

I have been having awful migraines and i am told this is part of the

fibromyalgia ...I am not quit sure if this is so...If it is does anyone have

any suggestions on how to prevent them?

Migraines are often common among fibro sufferers. I get them, but mine

are usually more related to allergies. Have you been able to notice a

pattern of things that set them off? Like I said, mine usually occur

when my allergies start bothering me. I have learned the certain signs

that herald the possible onset of them. At that point, I start to try

to take evasive action. I take an Excedrin which studies have shown can

often keep a migraine from occurring if you take it soon enough. It's

something about the combination of the two drugs plus caffeine in it.

This might not work for everyone.

I also have found that alternating patterns of light and dark, like the

shadows of trees on the highway as you drive past on a sunny day can

trigger a migraine and really bright sun can do it too. Try laying in a

dark, quiet room. Some people are helped by icy cold compresses on your

neck and/or head. If none of these help you at all, see your doctor,

there is medicine you can try taking to help a migraine attack. Because

I've learned my signs, and I usually have time to take Excedrin or do

other things to help my allergies, I don't take any medication for my

migraines. I'm usually able to prevent them turning into migraines.

Others aren't so fortunate and have to take the medicines. Maybe others

will have different suggestions for you, but really, talk to your doctor

about medicines for migraines. You shouldn't have to suffer with

nothing at all.

Migraines are the pits. I try to have one all the time.. I get up in the

morning go to the refrig and get two ice packs. One goes behind my head by

my neck and the " corn bag " goes over my forehead and temples. I take an

excedrin migraine and lay down for 20 minutes. No more, or I feel drugged

for some reason. I refuse the migrains and I fight them tooth and nail, and

Darcy you are right, the ligth and dark do trigger them at times. When I

drive I get flashing from the sun so I use very dark sunglasses all year

around. I also make myself " car sick " so to speak, but I just lay down and

try to fight it off. It's a battle isn't it? BE STRONG! But sometimes,

you just want to lay around and be sick because you just feel like crap, I

know, but 80% of the time, I try to fight it.

You're brave, I can't fight my migraines tooth and nail once I get them,

that I have to do before they get that far. Once they're here, I tip

toe around or they just throw a fit and refuse to leave.

I think the trick is to learn when you can fight it and get away with

it, and when you're pushing your luck and need to cut back. I can push

in little ways, but about 95% of the time if I try a major push, it

comes back to hit me full force.
