Guest guest
When my daughters apartment burned because a next door neighbors little girl was playing with matches. The red cross was right there real fast passing out water but the SECOND they found out she had access to a credit card (mine) they dropped her and my little 2 year old daughter like a hot potato. She (me) had to pay out of our own pockets for a hotel room, food, clothes and everything else they needed. Even the apartment complex didn't help for over a week. Then they had a vacancy, with a lot higher rent. I would NEVER give American Red Cross a single penny of my money again. I will hunt a family in need out and give it to them personally. Just my nickel on the subject!
Guest guest
Grammy Pat ~~~ I've heard stories like that before about the Red Cross ~ don't know if they're afraid of lawsuits ~ or it's just a federal thing !!! I know they do GREAT things ~ but sometimes, rules are meant to be 'bent' !!!!!!! Glad hubby made it home from Atlanta fine -- it's a wonder his BP didn't skyrocket while waiting for a flight !!!!!!!! Hugs, Randie long week This whole country needs a big group hug I think! Anyway here's my tale of woe. Hank left for Atlanta Monday morning. I worried myself sick all day waiting to hear if he made it flyingthroughthat damn hurricane. Well he got to Atlanta and went for the orientation and they SENT HIM HOME! Some crap about his blood pressure. Well of course it was high,he had just flown through a hurricane. Anyway he had to wait for hours at the Atlanta airport and finally they got him a flight into Dallas but he had to spend the night there because they missed their connection to College Station. So I picked him up on Tuesday morning. He has been trying all week to get his status changed but they are just so overwhelmed right now there is no one to work on his case. He has training with the red cross in setting up shelters and disaster stuff (he actually teaches classes in emergency response) so now he is in charge of one of the shelters here in town. He is doing a great job too. I am very proud of him. But the red tape and bureaucracy are just ridiculous. People are coming in with food and smokers offering to cook brisket and stuff for the families and the red cross is turning them down because "the food has to be cooked in the correct environment". So they end up feeding them lukewarm rice from the salvation army! People coming in and offereingtheir homes to families and the idiots at the red cross tell them they cant put people in the houses until they have been inspected. What a crock. I hope it is just the lame brains in College Station doing this and not everywhere. Right now I am exceedingly fed up with Government officials. Anyway all this stress has me eating like there is no tomorrow. Luckily I don't keep much around the house. I need to turn off the TV and get my self together. Guest guest
, add my nickel to yours - - I don't give anything to the Red Cross either - - - my contribution will go directly to people who need it, not through some organization! Americans are known for their generosity, but a lot of the money given never gets to the people who need it! (((HUGS))) Clara No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Guest guest
I agree with you about the red cross 100%. They are always begging for money and donations and they pay their board of directors hundreds of thousands of dollars. All our donations go through our church or through eastern star and Masonic charities. 100% of that money goes to people who need it. This morning in their infinite wisdom the red cross is closing the shelter where Hank has been working because of "security reasons". Meaning they don't want the people at the church (the shelter is at the Central Baptist church) to have a hand in making the decisions, so they are sending the 150 or so people to other shelters that are already crammed. I have stopped eating and started cleaning. I realized this morning I have not taken any of my thyroid pills all week. No wonder I feel like crap. Does anyone have a spare brain they can loan me. Guest guest
Grammy Pat, The Red Cross can not make the churches give up thier shelter if the church chooses to keep them. I know for a fact they can't because the churches here did not do so. They just flat told the Red Cross that they had everything under controll and thier services were not needed. I am thinking that maybe the Red Cross gets some kind of payment from the government with each person they help. I mean why else would they try to FORCE people to go where there are already Throusands housed compared to where there are only a little over a hundred housed???
