Hi everyone,

It's been a long time since I last posted here, so probably most of

you won't remember me. For those of you, I'll tell you I had an

underbite, crossbite and openbite and had it fixed with a lefort I

which advanced my upper jaw 5 mms last December.

Well, everything's going pretty well. I had my braces removed a

couple of weeks ago and got my permanent retainers fixed: one little

wire bonded behind my lower teeth and another one behind my upper.

They're really easy to get used to, and are completely unnoticeable,

so I'm quite happy, besides they have prevented my teeth from moving

a single mm.

All in all, I'm really happy I had this surgery. Though the

aesthetic changes were really subtle, they were for the better, and

my current bite is finally 100% functional.

I do have some questions however:

- Do any of you have both upper and lower permanent retainers? I

don't really know if this is common.

- Sometimes when I'm singing, I notice my upper jaw vibrates quite

uncomfortably. This never happened to me before. Do any of you have

the same " problem " ? Did it go away over time?

- I'm on my way now to bleach my teeth and have my amalgam fillings

replaced by white ones, and I'm wondering if the composite that

bonds the permanent retainer in place will be an obstacle to

bleaching. Any thoughts?

Well, I guess that's all folks ;-)

I just wanted to send a huge hug to my " old friends " , Cammie,

Irish and everyone else!

Take care!

*laen*

P.S:Yes, , I'll post those new pictures as soon as I'm done

with the whitening stage ;-)

Hey Laen,

I remember you. Glad to hear the good news! Keep on smiling.

Sorry, but I cannot answer any of your questions. I'm sure someone

else can.

Take Care,

Randy

Hi Laen,

Congratulations! Woohoo! and yes, you are psychic about my quest for

photos to see how you turned out.

As far as I know, the bonding material is unaffected by the

bleaching, which I also did (I didn't post photos as my post-braces

one from the ortho shows my YELLOW teeth). I have a fixed lower

retainer, a removeable upper (like my old ALF).

I noticed the vibration bit too (I sing in the car), and it went away

eventually. I do feel a bit when I cough very, very hard sometimes.

We're working on getting the cough diagnosed, and hopefully it will

vanish too.

I am sooooooo happy for you, Laen!

Hi Laen,

Hello stranger!

I'm so glad your orthognathic journey is coming to an end! You are

braces-free! Fantastic. Thanks for the info on the permanent

retainers. I think I am getting a permanent bottom one ... I have an

appt. on Monday. Also have an appointment with the dentist to

discuss whitening! I sure need it!

No, I haven't had the upper jaw vibration you are mentioning. I know

singing felt weird but it was all about numbness, not vibrations.

I, too, am waiting for some whitening results before posting new pix

up here! We are thinking alike, old friend!

Best of luck to you and keep in touch!

Irish!
