Mike. A post on the About.com Alcoholism site includes the words " Any one in NA is automatically an alcoholic, as alcohol is a drug. " Using this argument, anyone addicted to anything is addicted to everything. Not a personal putdown of anyone of course, but is it really of service to make ppl think they are addicted to things that they arent? (This is not the same issue as to whether they can safely use other drugs). P.

I had a thought about perhaps going to a meeting tonight, but I squashed it immediately. Ironic that the very organization that I sought out for help is now the most frustrating, irritating, demeaning and dehumanizing problem in my life right now. Thanks for the encouragement. There is a poker sayng: If you cant see the sucker at the table, it's you. Maybe if you cant see the bully at NA meetings, then... On the About.com alcoholism board, someone posted: " Anyone who's an NA is automatically an alcoholic because alcohol is a drug " . So anyone addicted to anything is automatically addicted to everything? Not a personal putdown, but not encouraging a healthy attitude imo. P. Guest guest
It 'belittles' a person to be forced, even indirectly, to attend an asinine " spiritual " indoctrination service in the first place. Just cause they didn't spit on you when you walked in the door means little. (By the way, some 12-Step programs DO spit on you. The old Straight, Inc., program had a procedure called 'spit therapy', in which all the old-timers held down a recalcitrant newcomer and spit on him. Was supposed to teach people to be 'powerless'.)
