Guest guest
I don't think you're evil ) I give my kids paci's usually from day one. I have never had a problem nursing at all because of it. (I have nursed 6) If they don't want the paci and they are really hungry..they'll let ya know...but I feel it's a lifesaver when you just have to get something else done and they just want to suck. ,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Come join my lists:o)LargeLDSfamilies-subscribeegroupsfrugaltalkforlargeLDSfamilies-subscribeegroupsLDSparentsofboys-subscribeegroups(LDSwomenathome-subscribeegroups Our theme for this list...http://www.mormons.org/basic/family/mothers/benson_zion.htm)LDSmomsinIdaho-subscribeegroups~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Guest guest
LLL recommends waiting at least 4-6 weeks before introducing a pacifier or bottle to avoid nipple confusion. So I would suggest waiting a little while longer before introducing the pacifier. - LLL leader to be and homeschooling mom to (9), (6), and (11 months) > I have an Avent pacifier in it's box just dying to come out! Guest guest
I don't think you are evil either. My LC told me to wait 3 weeks before giving a pacifier to make sure nursing is well established. My dd wanted to suck all the time for comfort, but I had oversupply problems and she would scream because she did not want anymore milk, just to suck. The pacifier given at exactly 3 weeks of age saved our sanity. Suzanne mom to Gwyneth 1/22/
Guest guest
, The only concern I would have is that it has been shown that extended pacifier use can cause some jaw formation troubles. The forces exerted in the mouth by sucking a pacifier are almost completely opposite that of breastfeeding. I certainly wouldn't make him stop because anyone else wants you to. It should be a decision made by you based on what works best for your family. But only two have taken it for more than about three weeks. I had one that we took it away at about 18 months...and now my last one ...well he just turned two and I'm getting soft. I was going to take it away on his second birthday...but couldn't make myself do it. But ya know what...I realized...WHY????? Why should I take it from him? Because others want me to...how silly. I allow myself my little " comforts " in life...why shouldn't he have them too. I mean it's not like he will have it for life. As it is, now he just has it at bed time. I do get kinda irritated at three and four year olds that have it all day long. But he just has his at bed time. That's it. So...until I feel it's doing him more harm...I am not taking it away because others think I should. I just hope he doesn't try and take the new babies:o) ,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Come join my lists:o)LargeLDSfamilies-subscribeegroupsfrugaltalkforlargeLDSfamilies-subscribeegroupsLDSparentsofboys-subscribeegroups(LDSwomenathome-subscribeegroups Our theme for this list...http://www.mormons.org/basic/family/mothers/benson_zion.htm)LDSmomsinIdaho-subscribeegroups~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed!http://www.lactivist.com

Guest guest
Yea.... I have heard all about the jaw formation thing. However...he was breastfed (totally) for the first year. (well...I mean what milk he got was breastmilk...I did feed him other things starting at about 6 months...but no bottles:o) And now, like I said...he only has the paci at bed time and half that time it's just in the bed with him. So I don't feel too much concern over it at this time. And he wont have it forever I'm sure:o) LOL...that would make a cute wedding picture:o) ,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Come join my lists:o)LargeLDSfamilies-subscribeegroupsfrugaltalkforlargeLDSfamilies-subscribeegroupsLDSparentsofboys-subscribeegroups(LDSwomenathome-subscribeegroups Our theme for this list...http://www.mormons.org/basic/family/mothers/benson_zion.htm)LDSmomsinIdaho-subscribeegroups~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Guest guest
I second that! My dd would NOT take a paci(or "bink" as dh and I call them) until she was about 3 weeks, then one day when I knew she needed to suck(but had already spit up from eating too much cause of my second letdown) I popped it in and she happily began sucking. I was not a "pacifier baby" and I started out saying I wouldn't have one either, but when you have an overabundant supply, or you just can't get ANYTHING done or even a minute to yourself because your child has a high need to suck, sometimes a paci is the answer to your prayers. Not to mention how disconcerting(and frightening!) it is to watch your baby throw up if you do have too much milk!
