Tony Cappa in Farmingdale...He seems to really know what he's doing...i've come across a few people who are very happy with him...but still his job is to do helmets and i'm worried that i'm jumping into this and my son may not need it...i was told by Dr. Rami Grossman that the helmet is necessary and by Dr. Mirer that the helmet i not needed. My son has torticollis and is in PT...I wish that there was a posting on what measurements warrant a helmet and if this could resolve on it's own...

I'm in Ronkonkoms! I stink with measurments. I know that for ear

asymmetry 0-3 is normal. Hopefully another moderator who knows

measurments will reply.

Which Hanger are you using? When I was looking in our area for an

ortho to treat my baby's plagio I couldn't find any with experience.

That's going back to 2002 though. I ended up taking her to Cranial

Tech in NJ.

Do you know how much experience your ortho has? What's his name?

Most babies don't round out on their own. Some doctors are totally

anti-band. They're not educated about torticollis and plagiocephaly,

sadly. Plagio is usually secondary to torticollis. Your son's head

most likely won't round out by it's self due to the tort.

You don't have anything to lose by banding your son. If you don't band

him while you can you may regret not banding him later.

There are measurment guidelines that are used. I'm sorry but I can't

remember what they are. You'd think after all these years here I'd

know them by heart. I'm actually pretty frustrated right now b/c I

can't remember. I'm sure when one of other moderators sees your post

they'll reply.

0-3 normal

3-6 very mild (usually no band)

6-10 (mild, banding warranted)

10-15 (moderate, banding reccommended)

15+ (severe, banding reccommended)

These guidelines are a combination of insruance, doctor and ortho.

Some providers feel anything less than 12 mm is mild, no problem.

however, research shows that the majority of the population has less

than 3mm with 99.7% of the population having less than 6 mm.
