Hi ,

My 2006 UHC summary of benefits states it the exact same way. CT told us it was pointless even to attempt filing due to such a cut-and-dry exclusion.

We are going to try to file anyway - I have no doubt it will be denied but then we will appeal. It is ridiculous to pay so much money to an insurance company all year long and then when you really need coverage for something so MEDICALLY NECESSARY they will not pay a penny. It is such a shame and we are so upset about it.

Please let me know what happens or if you come across anything interesting during your battle as we will be going through the same thing here shortly.

Best to you and your child,

There is a reason UHC has felt compelled to add the words "cranial banding" and I suspect it's because there's a great need, out there, for this type of treatment, which would cost them a bundle.I have been fighting for coverage for almost a year, now. Hi Amy,

I would love to know what you find out in regards to UHC as well - I, too, have been denied due to their orthotics exclusion and am prepared to fight.

I also think it would be fantastic if we could find a way for a show such as Dateline or 20/20 to do a story on this condition/treatment - it is so needed!

Thanks and best,

, I'm with you on this one. We have UHC too and we're prepared to fight as much as we can. I'm hoping I can use my mom's expertise. She works for an insurance company and handles claims all day long, she is bound to help us with appeals, so here's hoping I have some luck. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted as things progress..if we get anywhere, I want to pass that along so the rest of you with UHC can benefit as well!

I was thinking it would be wonderful too if an investigative news report were focused on this, something like Dateline or 20/20, etc. I wonder if enough attention would be brought to all this to first, educate the public to why our kids wear these helmets and second, help in putting pressure on insurance companies so we get coverage. Anyone know how to get a major investigative news program to do such a report?

I'm butting in here (sorry) but... it's funny you mention this

because the first time I ever heard of these helmets was on tv.

Like dateline or 20/20 or some show like that. It was years ago I

was probably 12 years old at the time that's how long ago it was

(i'm 25 now). It would be good if we could figure out who did that

show and it would just be like a follow up. Hmmm.
