Hi Shanna,

Welcome to the group. The Danmar helmet is passive. A passive helmet

relies totally on growth and it most likely won't correct your baby's

facial asymmetry. Passive helmets work best on babies who are younger

than 6 months. The most rapid head growth occurs in the first 6 months

of life, afte that is slows down dramatically. Where are you located?

Hi . I live in a tiny town called Denton, located in central NC.

Logan is going to Wake Forest Univ Baptist Medical Center in

Winston-Salem NC. I am praying that there has been some type of

improvement when we take him back to see the plastic surgeon next

month. The main reason that she put Logan in a helmet is to keep the

asymmetry and ridge from getting worse. He sleeps with his head to

the left, whether he is on his back, stomach, or in a car seat. I

have really been paying attention to how I lay him down now, and he

seems to favor that side a lot more...At least with the helmet, he

isn't actually laying on his head and it shouldn't get any worse.

Hi,

Has your son been checked for torticollis? You can learn more about it

by going here:

http://www.drhull.com/EncyMaster/T/torticollis.html

http://www.pedisurg.com/PtEduc/Torticollis.htm

http://www.infant-torticollis.org/

Plagio and tort go hand in hand. Usually if a baby has tort they'll

develop plagio.

I can understand your pediatrician not wanting Logan to get any worse.

There are so many other options in NC that WOULD correct the facial

asymmetry and make his head round again. I don't understand why she

didn't refer you to one of those places.

The window of opportunity to correct plagio isn't a big one. At your

son's age he could receive awesome correction from an active band. If

your interested the info on these places is listed in the Database. We

have a helmet/band database providers are listed by state. Keep us

posted on your little one.

Logan's dr didn't say anything about tort when I took him in. I had

done a little research when I took him in and had read a little about

the tort. One thing about Logan is that when he is up, he does fine

with his neck. He is extremely active nad moves his head/neck

everywhere. It is just when he is sleeping that he is picky about

whre he lays his head.

As far as the helmet, if there is no improvement when we go in on the

14th, I am going to see what other options she can recommend. His dr

is part of a team of craniofacial surgeons and dealswith a lot of

children as she is at the hospital attached to Brenners Childrens

Hospital. Hopefully, it will correct the problem since it is not very

severe. If it is okay with you, I would like to send you a pic of his

CT scan that shows how severe his ear asymmetry is.

Thanks!

Hi Shanna,

That's great that he doesn't have tort!! Sure you can send me his

scans, I don't know if I'll be able to " read " them or not. lol I don't

think it'll be too hard to find his ears though. ;-) My email address

is taime @ optonline.net. Get rid of the spaces before and after the @

sign.

Have you looked in our photos section at the before and after

pictures? You'll see that a lot of our babies had facial/ear asymmetry

and with active banding it corrected. My fingers are crossed that your

son shows improvement at his next appointment.
