I'll ask my GI. is 8 1/2, but is only 44 pounds--VERY tiny for his age. He looks like he is only about 5 years old. But he doesn't act it.

Magnesium is “an essential electrolyte mineral involved in maintaining proper cardiovascular, nerve, and muscle health.” According to the label on my bottle of magnesium, “Next to calcium, magnesium is the second most concentrated nutrient in the body’s cells. …Magnesium is critical to energy production.” My multi-vitamin has 500 mg. I take an additional 400mg per day. Get it in the vitamin aisle—I happen to be using Wild Harvest brand just now.

Be careful—I do not ever have the big D problem, but too much mag will create it! I have seen 200mg tablets which might be better for a child. I didn’t see how old Ben is. Probably you’ll want to ask the doc. Milk of Magnesia is just liquid magnesium—the label gives a child’s dosage. I don’t know if it’s better or worse than taking the capsules.

Speaking of fiber foods....our very own Houston Chronicle does their Food Section

every Wednesday. Sometimes it's the only thing that gets me up in the morning! : )

This weeks front page article is titled Don't Let Boredom Win Against the Grain.

In the article they say a little blurb about gluten free grains and celiac. But the

descriptions of the different grains are what impressed me the most. The Amaranth

for example....the first word is Gluten-Free. Not buried down in the description! It's

like that on all "our" grains! Prett cool!

Yep, popycorn is a fav here too until Ben got a kernel stuck between his tooth and gum! We had to see the dentist on a Saturday to pull it out. She just laughed at the emergency visit--but the poor kid was in such pain! Where I worked on it for a full 15 minutes w/o any luck, she just pulled it out in one try. Good grief!

My 9 yr. old celiac presented with constipation. We count fiber grams ( 2.5 grams per year of age for kids/ per day). Jake eats popcorn almost every day- it's loaded with fiber. Kerri

Yeah...I'm kinda partial to this group too! Wanna hear what we had for dinner not long ago?? This was originally from Recipezaar.com. I altered it a bit but wanted to give credit where it is due! Cajun Style Dirty Rice 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef 1 large onion, diced 1 bell pepper, diced 4 stalks celery, diced 2 cloves garlic, crushed 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt 1/2 teaspoon onion salt 1 cup water 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon Tabasco sauce 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1/2

cup chopped green onions 1/2 cup minced parsley 4 cups hot cooked rice Spray a large non-stick pan with vegetable oil spray. Brown meat in pan along with diced onion, pepper, celery and garlic. Drain fat and season with cayenne pepper, onion and garlic salt. Add water and simmer for about 20- 30 minutes, until the

vegetables are cooked down. (You may need to add a little water to keep from sticking.) Add Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, cream of mushroom soup and mirliton. Simmer for 15 minutes. Add cooked rice, stir gently, until all rice is moistened. Top with green onion and parsley, stir lightly and serve. Of course I used Progresso Cream of Mushroom soup! The funniest thing was when I told the 10 yr old...oh.....this isn't going to work. I shouldn't put all the soup in it. Thinking that it's not concentrated like s....I reluctantly dumped all the soup in...it made ALOT! But let me tell you! There wasn't enough for TWO dinners! : ) Enjoy & Mike
