The girls are three and a half months old and have responded to

treatment so far. The measurements don't show marked improvement

but improvement none the less. is Plagoiocephaly and Chloe is

Brachycephaly. If I would have to choose, I would say Chloe's

condition is more severe. I really like our PT at Cranial Tech and

she has not been forceful about treatment at all. We have not felt

any pressure. I was actually on your son's website today. Are

there other risks other than TMJ, underbites, and crossbites?

Welcome. I understand your concerns about not wanting to jump into something. Is the repo working? How old are the twins? The earlier you can start the banding treatment the better the correction and less time in a band, but if they are very young than you may have time to continue repo for a while longer and see how it goes. I agree that you should talk with your ped and feel comfortable about your decision. I used CT in Virginia and absolutely loved them. They have a reputation for being honest with thier clients about the need for a band. If you would like to get an idea of what goes on during treatment you can look at my son's website My Banded Baby . You can also look in the files section here for some great info on repo techniques. So give us a little more background info on the twins and we'll give you our opinions and advice. I am glad to see that you have been on Dom's website. Your OT may be

recommending the band because brachy is difficult to repo and she

figures it will be easier to band them both together. They are very

young and you may be able to talk with our repo experts here and see

what they can tell you about repoing brachy. If they think it is a

good option I wouldn't see the harm in waiting one month to see how

it goes. You can track progress on your own with pictures.

As far as the associated risks, yes there are others. Vision trouble,

ear infections, speech delays, developemental delays, not to mention

the self esteem issue later in life. Feel free to read all about it

on Dom's site and email anytime with questions. In the mean time post

about repoing a brachy baby. Make sure you put the twins age in there

and that there has been very little progress so far.

MW,

Insurance approval can take some time. Perhaps you should proceed

with that. Then if you decide to band everything will be in place.

DS wore a band from 5-8 mo. He was severe but his progress was

amazing. DD was mild and got her band at 8.5 mo. She corrected

beautifully but it wasn't as dramatically fast as DS. If we had

waited that long for him,as our ped recommended, he would have

needed 2 bands for sure.

A pediatric Opthalmologist told me he sees a lot of babies with

untreated plagio.

Good luck in your decision.

Hi,

Welcome to the group! Have you checked out Cranial Tech's website?

They have a ton of research articles, they're URL is

http://www.cranialtech.com

I'm NOT trying to scare you into banding your babies, so please don't

think that.

I as an adult had TMJ and a crossbite, this past March I chose to have

surgery to correct the crossbite. My jaw was constantly in pain I also

had frequent headaches.

It was by far the WORST surgery I have ever been through and I've had

a few. I had to have a palate expansion and then wear a palate

expander for 6 months. The whole experience was horrible. Having been

through that has really made my way of thinking about banding change.

When I banded my daughter I did it basically to correct her misaligned

ears and her facial asymmetry. I didn't think about the TMJ or

crossbites or any of that. Now I do! I'd band in a heartbeat if it

meant preventing either of those. :-) Keep up posted on your decision

and your 2 little ones.

Take care,

Hi. I also have twins, one of whom was banded at 3.5 mo. Twins are a

little different b/c most have plagio from in utero constraint which is

harder to fix with repo. Plus, repo with 1 is tough. With 2, I think it

is just too much. It isn't like your life isn't already a blur, right?

Also, if you have 2 in bands, it will be a lot easier before they are

really grabbing at each other too much. My girls were in the same crib

the whole time Blythe was banded, but since they couldn't really roll

over too much until the end.

You know, if you think you are going to do it, get started. Plus, if

you start the process and then think you want to hold off, you can, but

you'll be ready to go when you are ready. It is amazing how fast the

bands work before 5 mo. Blythe had pretty dramatic scaphy and was out

of our first side-opening band in 6 weeks, That is NOTHING. Pics are

posted in before and after DOC.

She went into a second band (Bi-Cal) to help widen. After 5 mo, growth

slows a little and while still great, it isn't anything like the super-

quick results in the youngest babies. Also, when the babies are that

little, they really have no idea what is going on. With twins, I would

definately do younger that waiting until they are more aware of the

world.

The down sides are that when they are really little, you have to do

more adjustments. I think we started at 2X a week and then moved to

once a week when Blythe was a little over 5 mo. We live 5 hours from

the Dallas CT, so the trek was an ordeal with the twins and my 3 yr old

in tow.

Also, it may take a month or so to actually get into the band from the

time you get an RX.

Hardy 11/17/01

Blythe and Charlotte 3/24/04 (Blythe DOC, side opening and Bi-Cal, 3.5-

9 mo)

I haven't posted in a long time. We've been out of our DOC for almost a

year.
