An active band redirects the growth. It has holding spots to hold in

the bulges so the flat areas can fill in more.

The passive ones don't do this. The goal is that the baby's head

grows in the shape of the helmet, round.

,A passive helmet or band is a orthotic made to what the baby's head should look like and as the baby grows hopefully the head will take on that shape. An active band or helmet is made from a casting or scan of the baby's head with holding points to hold in the growth in areas where it is not wanted and redirect the growth with safe gentle pressure to the areas that need it. In the files here there is an article from Cranial Tech that helps explain the differences between an active(Dynamic) and passive band. I am working on getting the info for you on the costs, etc. Also yes

it is possible for a baby to develope plagio after 6 months, rare,

but possible. It can happen as a result of the baby being left in the

same position for long periods of time. You see this alot in a child

who cannot move well because of physical or mental disabilities. The

baby should be checked for hydrocephalus, craniosynostosis, and other

possible causes when this happens at this age.
