His had no talent like yours by snipping you bikini strap. All his did was poop all over the place and the people. My daughter had one too but she will never have another one. However, that is what keeps me going most of the time. We have 6 parrots, 2 canarys, a Shih Tzu, 3 discus fish, various community fish and 2 15 " OSCARs. Talk about a lot of work! I use to take care of my friends parrot in the summer he was soo much fun..They live in a huge pull barn in the summer...they constantly travel for fun they have a diseal pusher and during the summer they just pull their diseal pusher inside the pullbarn and they stay in Indiana on their Thourbred farm, but in the winter the drive down to florida and stay there. They have a huge long rope hanging from their top of their barn the parrot would climb up on and when the phone would ring EVERYTIME he would start screech'n really load..and they used the water bottle for disipline..it was funny... Then if you asked him if he wanted a cracker and he would tell you to F OFF!!! he is a naughty lil bird sometimes...he just laughs all the time ..he is funny. I love em...they take him to the NASCAR races all the time too...he says GO EARNHARDT!!...too cute..I want one sooo bad. These same people own Buffalo..they are very rich, but they are very nice people...Well don't know if ya'll cared to hear that lil story or not..but I just thought I would share....he takes showers with us too...rather than using spray bottle for bat hing. I have 10 parrots, 9 dogs (4 pomeranians, 3 italian greyhounds, a GSD & a retreiver mix) and a cat. But no Shih tzus<g> (I used to have one, does that count?) My critters are literally what has kept me alive over the last few years. If I had not had to get up to help care for them, I wouldn't have had any reason to get up at all - ever. The seven little dogs and 3 of the parrots all live in the bedroom with me, and the other 7 parrots are in the livingroom. My husband takes care of the livingroom birds and all of the cages because I'm just not able to do it anymore, but I feed and water and play with all the birds in the bedroom, and the livingroom birds all wander into the bedroom during the day to spend time with me and get their share of cuddles. I feed and water the dogs in the bedroom, and the cat. By my husband " making " these animals be my responsibility, it gave me a reason to keep on keeping on. This was before I found a doctor that would even dx me, much less treat me, so I was in full-blown severe fibro - barely able to walk to the toilet and sink - but I HAD to keep moving some to take care of the animals. When I would hurt so bad that all I could do was lay here and cry, all the dogs would completely surround me on the bed, all of them snuggled up touching me as close as they could get, and lick me and whimper until I felt better. Two of my dogs are " special needs " dogs - they both have epilepsy and one is completely blind on top of that, so I also have to give them daily meds, help the blind one navigate sometimes, and be ready to go into action every time one has a seizure. So - while " I " didn't have any kind of schedule or reason for staying alive, the dogs kept me on a schedule. I couldn't give in to the urge to deaden my pain with alcohol (which I wanted to do SO badly sometimes) because I might be intoxicated and not be able to care for a sick dog. The animals have also helped to motivate me to finally find a good team of doctors who are finally treating me appropriately. Before, every time I would have to leave the house, they would look at me so sadly because I wasn't able to take even one of them out in the yard on a leash because I couldn't walk with them without being afraid of falling. So now I've got an application in for a motorized chair - with that, I'll not only be able to get around the house better, but I'll be able to take the little dogs out into my big yard and let them run and play to their hearts content 'cause I'll be able to be out there with them and capable of helping any of them that might get into trouble. I can even carry them around with me some now! I have five cockatoos, and they make me laugh every single day! They fly to my shoulder and lean into my ear and say the silliest things!! But Allicia, Missy and Tina are correct. As " cute " as parrots are, they are a HUGE amount of work, and they take alot of attention and special care. Do you feel that you're ready to adopt a 3 year old child and take care of his every need 24 hours a day?? That's what you're getting with a parrot - they're every bit as smart, mischevious and sneaky as a 3 year old child - but THEY NEVER GROW OUT OF IT! And if nobody brought it up before, they're loud. And I'm talking nieghbors with doors and windows shut loud - I live on 10 acres, and my neighbors as far as 1/4 mile up the road can hear my birds. Anyway - I'm sorry this was so long - but my animals have not only saved my life, they've BEEN my life over the last few years. They're always there with a snuggle, a lick or a kiss (or sometimes an unexpected bird bite!<g>) when I'm feeling down, they're ready for as much play as I can handle, but they don't let their feelings get hurt when I can't play anymore, they don't ever blame me for the things that I CAN'T do - they're just grateful for the things that I can do for them :-) I try to explain all of this to people who either don't have pets or don't have a chronic disease, and they just don't " get it " .
