Many babies adopt this face down, butt up position with the

bands...it must be comfy. Most will usually learn to turn thier heads

to the side after a couple of days, but in the meantime the ped is

right. The band actually helps keep the face from being totally in

the mattress too. Just listen closely and peek in, but try not to

intervene if necessary too soon. This is how she will learn to turn

her head.

Hi ,

My son did the exact same thing after he got the DOCband-face down

scared me to death!!! He kept waking up too(but he was older...8mo)and

wanted me to come in and turn him over on his back/side. But after a

few nights of this(all night) I just let him find his own way and no

problems since. I would say it really depends on your daughters neck

strength...if she has good muscles and can roll over easy then I'd do

what the PED said. But it really depends on how comfortable you are

with that and how big/mobile she is. How long has she been in the band?

- Our babies must have been born close to the same day - my son is 6 months, two & 1/2 weeks, born on Sept. 11th. The description of your daughter's sleep changes mirror exactly as my son's - both pre- and post-banding!. He never moved from his back during his sleep until after the helmet. Now, he can roll all ways all day long, but get him in that crib and he gets stuck on his stomach! We let him cry a little while to let him know he has to try to figure it out on his own. We have also tried helping him by placing his arms underneath him so he can push up, but it doesn't seem to help. Maybe it's because he's sleepy and can't remember? I dunno. I also worry that he is breathing into the mattress or into his hands or arms. But, I think (I hope) his neck is strong enough to position himself to not

suffocate during sleep. Sorry that I don't have any advice to give, but if anyone else has had this happen and has either found something that works or that can comment on how long this "phase" could last, it sure would be appreciated! emilybeth27 <emilybeth27@...> wrote: Hi ,My son did the exact same thing after he got the DOCband-face downscared me to death!!! Oh poor little girl. It is wierd that she can do it during the day

before she falls asleep? I am sure she'll get stronger soon and be

able to figure this out. I know if it was my child (i didn't have

this problem but...) I'd probably just go in and flip her over. I

know if I left my daughter crying for 5 minutes never mind 20 she'd

puke everywhere. Both my children sleep with their heads burried in

the mattress but they like it that way.

Hi ,

How frustrating. You must be exhausted. :-( Hopefully she'll start to

roll back over on her own soon! Keep us posted.

Both my girls did this. I think they are tired and disoriented at

night and it just takes some getting used to. Kiersten did this in

February. She has gotten over it and is sleeping on her side, tummy

or back without issue. We would let her fuss for a couple minutes

nad then go turn her over. Some nights it was quite frequently. She

did grow out of it. Good luck. I would maybe let her cry/fuss for a

couple minutes and let it increase a bit each time???
