The dose would be equivelent to 35mg of Tap. if 50 mg. ptu = 5mg of tap.

If she is on 750mg of Tap, 50 goes in there 7 times, 7 times the 5mg of tap

should be equivelent to the 35mg of tap...still a high dose, but not as high

as it seems.

Maybe because my levels had gone down a little she reduced the doseage so that I

wouldn't be taking 75 mg of Tap. I just ran down stairs to look at my old

prescription bottle (when I posted the 750 mg of PTU earlier I was going on

recollection only) and I was on 750 mg of PTU/day. I'm hoping when I go to the

endo in 2 weeks, she'll lower the dose. (Sits with fingers double crossed.)

So I am actually taking a higher dosage of the ATD (Tap 40 mg) than I was before

(PTU 750 mg). Thanks for the translation info and caluclation. Now I know

where I stand. When I was first put on the Tap I couldn't believe the reduction

in milligrams, and now I know.

Thanks again!

wouldn't that make it the same as 75mg. of Tap ?

Not that I'm a maven but I never heard of someone being on doses higher

than 60 mg./day. And this is with a beta blocker too?!?!

Take care, Fay

Hi ,

Your dose should get cut back if your labs are coming down and she is

monitoring you using the FT3 and FT4 and NOT the TSH. TSH lags behind for a

while, anywhere from 6 weeks, to Pam's 3 years before hers moved. If your

doctor IS using TSH she could turn around and up your dose again...learn

your hypO symptoms, if you don't have the list, let me know and I can send

it to you off group. It is in the archives from February though...it is

also an extended symptoms list put together here in this group.

She is monitoring the free T4, free T3 and TSH, at least that is what my next

lab order says. I am planning to post the results from my next lab, tomorrow,

to get feedback from those more educated about it than me.

I would like it if you could send me the hypo symptoms. I'd like to see just

how many of those I have and compare them to the hyper ones I have. Is it

possible to have a little bit of both? I ask because I'm gaining weight yet my

heart rate is still high and I am hot a lot of the time.
