Hi everyone, My name is Manon and my son is the new front page star. I haven't been too active lately but still try to keep up on posts. It's nice to see allot of new members finding help here much like I did. was about 2 weeks old when I noticed that his head just didn't seem right to me. He had some flatness across the back and back right hand side along with a strange dent in the back of his head. I brought it up to my ped who told me that it was common for babies to have misshapen heads and that it would eventually round out on its own. As the weeks and months went on though, I noticed that the flatness across the back of 's head was getting worse instead of better. Every time we went for 's well checks, I would bring it up only to have my ped dismiss it every time. By 's 6 month well check, people had been making comments about my son's head and doing double

takes if they saw him from the side. I was sure this wasn't normal so when I said something to my ped that time, he looked an and said "Well, he does look funny but talk to me in 6 months" and laughed and basically blew me off. I left that appointment in tears and went home, got on my computer and typed "flat headed baby" into google. I got the link to the plagocephaly.org website and there was where I finally found my answers. Plagiocephaly was not a word I had ever heard of before then. I could not believe that my ped never told me anything about it. Once I did some research I found this group and after my first desperate post, I got the wonderful responses and support I had been looking for. From that point I knew that I wanted to do something about it. I had to do it all on my own though because my ped thought that helmet therapy was a "crock and a rip off". Thankfully I live 25 minutes from Kennedy Kreiger Institute, a

wonderful children's hospital in Baltimore. I took in to have him evaluated and that's when he was officially diagnosed. From there we went to Cranial Tech in ndale, Va and got the ball rolling to get him banded. He was banded at 9 months and wore it for 13 weeks. It was a very long journey and when all was said and done, it was the best thing we ever did. still has the broadness and the flatness across the top back of his head but his assym is gone and he got allot of roundness at the bottom back of his head. He was a brachy baby so he was more difficult to treat. You can look at his pics under T. in the our palgio kids folder. Anyway, I know my story was long but I thought I needed to be thorough since I hadn't been on board for a while. is now 14 months and looks beautiful. He's walking and getting into everything so he keeps us very busy!! Manon Mom to T.
