what to say to untreated kids parents

I find that we are running into alot of people who see our son in his

band and when we tell them what it is for they say " oh my child has

that and the doc said not to worry about it " or " my grandson has that

and they never did anything about it " .

I am just not sure what to say in this situation. I know it is going

to come up again because my mom is holding a fundraiser for us. Any

advise?
