Guest guest
Leah, First and foremost I breastfeed! I also delay allergenic foods, since we have a family history. Allergies, in my opinion, are one of the most devestating things to the immune system. Especially to a small child or baby. Children's immune systems are fully functioning until around 5-6 years of age. I am careful to keep my children away from things they are allergic to. My dd is showing signs of dairy allergy and I take care to limit her dairy intake. I use a HEPA filter in our house. I use homeopathy at the first signs of illness and try never to let an illness progress too far. I also use colloidal silver to treat any illnesses that we get. I do not vaccinate as I believe that it is not immune supporting. I use Tissue Salts as a daily supplement for my children. I give them only organic produce to limit their exposure to pesticides and I use dairy and meat that is not full of hormones or antibiotics. I believe that our current environment with all the chemicals, pesticides, hormones and various pollutants is the biggest blow to our immune systems. I try to limit our exposure to contaminants. I don't worry to much about limiting exposure to mild colds as I think that children's immune systems are strengthened each time they fight off a cold. I allow my children to really learn about their body by following their cues for sleeping and eating. I believe by trusting their bodies to know what they need they are better equipt to listen to their bodies when they are sick. I tend to serve a lot of garlic in our meals as it is antimicrobial and immune boosting. I also use a lot of visualization with myself and my children when we are sick. I think more than anything is that on the whole I just believe that our immune systems are designed to handle illnesses and that health is our birthright as humans. I have faith in the human body. Guest guest
Boy, I'm really struggling with this right now. I do not vaccinate and have no regrets about it, but am really intimidated by the task of keeping them healthy. My 2yo has environmental allergies which cause him to drain mucous into his stomach and get diarrhea - it also makes him not want to eat much. Anyway, I worry about his little immune system when he gets like this (like right now) His birthday was yesterday and my mom wants to take him to this 'fun factory' thing - I guess it's like an indoor playground w'ballpits and stuff.... All I can think is 'germ factory' I'm also struggling with the whole germ theory. The germ theory just does not make sense and I've even read where Pasteur later changed his mind about it too... Anyway, Spencer is generally healthy (has had one little cold and roseola) aside from these allergies, I would just hate to expose him to something scary - but I don't want to shelter him either, y'know. Does this rambling make ANY sense? I would love some input. S. Wendi wrote: > Leah, > > First and foremost I breastfeed! I also delay allergenic foods, since we > have a family history. Guest guest
Leah, There are different signs of allergies. Rashes, sneezing, itching eyes, etc. But with my daughter I mainly notice behavioral changes. She becomes much more whiney and difficult to deal with, she also has significantly less energy after eating dairy. I try to focus on giving her foods that make her feel really good. As for homeopathy it is very hard to screw up since the remedies don't have side effects. A good book to get started is Family Homeopathy by Callinan. Guest guest
Wendi, Really there is no way I could harm my family? I thought there were certain tintures (sp?)/ herbal meds, ( I still haven't figured out the differences between them) that couldn't be given to children/nursing moms, or certain things can't be mixed with other foods or meds or vitamins? I hope this makes since... Our local news has had warnings about " What you need to know about Herbal medicines... Guest guest
Every medicine or herb has some sort of side effect if it does something. You see, the side effect is the product of the "medicine" For example, Tylenol has side effects some bad but the good side effect is a pain reliever. St john's Wort is suppose to make you "feel" better. That is the side effect of this herb. Even herbs can be dangerous if not taken properly or in high volumes. Not all natural things are safe. You can't eat Lily of the valley. That is all natural but very poisonous. You can't eat all mushrooms. Some will kill you others will cause hallucinations. My herb book says to stay away from certain ones when pregnant and nursing as they can effect the fetus or baby and they can cause labor....side effect. Now if you are talking Meditation or yoga or chiropractic no side effects. Except you could fall or pull a muscle I suppose. LOL Basically be careful no matter what. Nothing is completely safe and I truly admire Wendi for her ability to stay away from modern medicine. I believe she has some strong beliefs and I truly respect them. I wish I was more informed on this stuff. Thanks Wendi for all your advise. Laurie Re: was vaccinations/immune system Wendi,Really there is no way I could harm my family? Guest guest
Leah, There is a big difference between using herbals and homeopathics. There are many herbals that are not for using while breastfeeding or for children. Babies under the age of six months shouldn't be getting herbals at all. Homeopathics are extremely diluted and are safe for babies, pregnancy and breastfeeding. If it is the wrong remedy it won't do any harm, it just won't work. The only concern is that most homeopathics are in a lactose base which if your baby has a severe milk allergy that could be a problem, but there are liquid homeopathics that have no lactose. If you would like to read a brief description of homeopathy go to http://home.att.net/~NatureBaby and click on homeopathy.
Guest guest
Laurie, It is my pleasure to pass on things that I have learned. You are right everything has a side effect. Homeopathics have the least side effects of any medication/remedy that I have come across which is why I use them. I have had a lot of reactions to herbals so I gravitated towards homeopathy that is more gentle. You see, the side effect is the product of the " medicine " For example, Tylenol has side effects some bad but the good side effect is a pain reliever. St john's Wort is suppose to make you " feel " better.
