As I've mentioned, I have had lots of anxiety/panic issues, and

breathing symptoms are a significant part of it for me. I have

also had asthma attacks, so I know what it feels like to really

not be getting enough oxygen. In the latter case, your fingernails

and lips will turn a bit blue and, well, it is obvious you are not

getting enough oxygen. Not sure how to describe it, but it is

totally different.

When it is " just " anxiety/panic, you will feel like something is

wrong with your breathing, but it will be hard to pin down exactly

what is wrong. The very worst times for me are when I feel like

I have to pay attention to my breathing because the exhale seems

to not want to end on its own. I feel like if I let my body do

its own thing, I will never inhale again. If this happens when

I am trying to fall asleep, sometimes I will start to drift off

into sleep and suddenly gasp.

I don't get any pounding heart any more. I think that is usually

an adrenaline thing. I haven't had that for a long time. When

my adrenals are in the worst shape (at least by my judgment), my

heart rate slows down. I'm sure this could vary, though, and your

adrenals could still be fried whether adrenaline is making your

heart pound or not.

I find it very comforting to check out my fingernails and lips

when the breathing trouble is happening. I might look a bit

pale and awful, but if my lips and fingernails look white or

pink or a combination of white/pink, I feel some reassurance.

always wearing shoes and socks/hose and consuming warm foods and

warming herbs is very helpful for adrenals. Ginger tea is a good

When the obvious external stress lets up, sometimes the internal

stress finally gets a chance to express itself. Do you have good

ways to express your feelings? Writing or art (didn't you say

you are an artist?), perhaps some physical expression, or

someone you can talk to about stresses?

Sometimes it is pretty scary to read those reports, because they

will put a lot of information in there to be thorough, but it is

just reporting on your individual characteristics and they are

not always signs of any disease. Usually somewhere on the report

is a summary statement or diagnosis that says what their general

finding is. That would be more informative.

Of course, it would not hurt to contact the doctor who ordered

the test and ask him/her to explain exactly what the results mean

and could what they describe lead to problems and symptoms. You

might also talk a bit what you are experiencing now. Even without

seeing you, they might be able to say something by phone that

would relieve your concerns.
