Guest guest
They have to sit for a couple of weeks but I hope they turn out good. We have so many cucumbers (only planted 3 plants!) that we are going to try making some dill slices later in the week. Don't be terribly impressed as we are using a pickle mix from Ball and all you do is slice the cukes, put them in jars and pour the hot vinegar mixture over them, then can as normal. All this food preservation has been a lot of fun as we are doing it on a small scale. Actually, Kevan has been the main driving force in all this. Surprised me as he is definitely a city boy and his family always bought everything. But, he is really enjoying all the gardening and the work that goes with it! My family, on the other hand, always had a big garden and canned and froze everything. There have been rumbles of expanding our garden patch for next year to share with our families. We'll see! |--------+-----------------------> | | " RW " | | | <r.rweston@ve| | | rizon.net> | | | | | | 08/01/2002 | | | 09:17 AM | | | Please | | | respond to | | | wwliterside | | | | |--------+-----------------------> >-----------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: wwliterside | | cc: (bcc: -C /BRE/AGFA/US/BAYER) | | Subject: Re: 's 7/31/02 | | journal | >-----------------------------------------------------------| YUMMMMMMMmmmmm....bread and butter pickles!!!! Guest guest
It really was easy because it is at such a small scale this year. We have done 11 quarts of green beans and 14 pints of bread and butter pickles. As soon as they are ready, we will can tomatoes and have plans to freeze yellow squash if there is an abundance. Later in the fall, I may try my hand at canning some apple sauce and apple butter. I have been borrowing my mom's canning supplies but we have enjoyed it so much, that we have asked Santa for a pressure canner for Christmas! Looks like the 's will be eating lots of OP veggies this winter plus we are saving a ton of money! |--------+-----------------------> | | " puffmommy546| | | 5 " | | | <jjcberan@msn| | | .com> | | | | | | 08/01/2002 | | | 09:47 AM | | | Please | | | respond to | | | wwliterside | | | | |--------+-----------------------> >-----------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: wwliterside | | cc: (bcc: -C /BRE/AGFA/US/BAYER) | | Subject: Re: 's 7/31/02 | | journal | >-----------------------------------------------------------| Lots of veggies today -good for you!
