RE: What was it like when you first walked?

I barely remember getting up my first day (too drugged up)! The second day

was a little better, and by my 3rd day I was climbing out of bed by myself

(nurses were not to happy about this). I have heard others say it felt like

there insides were going to fall out. I never experienced this. Also, I had

very little pain overall from the surgery. Once home, I only used the pain

medicine once. I found this to be very surprising, as I am a big baby

(getting littler by the week!), and I always thought I had a very low

tolerance to pain. Surprise, surprise. The surgery was a breeze for me, and I

would do it again in a heartbeat!

I am 10 days post-op and I remember that I walked about half way to the

nurses station and back. I had no pain do to the wonderful meds that i was

on. I did however feel like I was going to be sick but I didn't.

Honestly, I hated it. It was more from being " hunched " over than anything.

My insides felt as if they were falling out, but once I got " moving " (TINY

steps), I was ok. Every step counts towards eventually walking as if

nothing happened. I often walked in my backyard (so the neighbors wouldn't

see me), and made it around the entire yard in about a week! That was a

huge accomplishment for me, and the dog loved it!

to be honest it didn't hurt... pain meds take care of that... but felt like i

was going to vomit and /or pass out...was very weak..

until 8:00PM surgery day so they didn't get me up to walk until the next

day. I only walked outside my room and just a little into the hall for

the first time. I held a pillow against my incision and found that to be

helpful. I did some walking on my own each day but not as much as I

stomach muscles would feel the next day. It's like that. So anytime you

use your stomach muscles AT ALL, it hurts. It's not unbearable, but it

does make you go slow.

When I walked, I didn't really hurt, I just needed to hold my hand over

my stomach to keep it from moving. I too had that feeling like

everything inside was all loose.
