Guest guest
Peg, I barely remember getting up my first day (too drugged up)! The second day was a little better, and by my 3rd day I was climbing out of bed by myself (nurses were not to happy about this). I have heard others say it felt like there insides were going to fall out. I never experienced this. Also, I had very little pain overall from the surgery. Once home, I only used the pain medicine once. I found this to be very surprising, as I am a big baby (getting littler by the week!), and I always thought I had a very low tolerance to pain. Surprise, surprise. The surgery was a breeze for me, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! Take care, Joni - Dr. Thayer 11/27/

Guest guest
I am 10 days post-op and I remember that I walked about half way to the nurses station and back. I had no pain do to the wonderful meds that i was on. I did however feel like I was going to be sick but I didn't. C

Guest guest
Peg, Honestly, I hated it. It was more from being " hunched " over than anything. My insides felt as if they were falling out, but once I got " moving " (TINY steps), I was ok. Every step counts towards eventually walking as if nothing happened. I often walked in my backyard (so the neighbors wouldn't see me), and made it around the entire yard in about a week! That was a huge accomplishment for me, and the dog loved it! Dawn What was it like when you first walked? Can anyone share what it was like the first time they walked after the surgery? I know they make you walk the same day. How difficult was it and how far did you walk? Thanks, Peg

Guest guest
Peg, Since I only had the surgery 5 days ago it is still fresh in my memory! I HATE walking. I have had a lot of pain from this surgery and I walk all hunched over and it really sucks! BUT I know it will all be worth it in the end. They give you WONDERFUL pain meds. In fact I was given oxycontin and ricoxet (sp?). Everything gets better day by day. Kim in Methuen

Guest guest
Kim, If you'd like to lend me 1/2 Roxicet, I'd be a HAPPY girl! I'll stay away from the Oxycontin...I'm afraid people will think I'm the " CVS Bandit " ! Dawn Re: What was it like when you first walked? Guest guest
Hi Peg, My surgery was 5 weeks go at NW. I didn't get back to my room until 8:00PM surgery day so they didn't get me up to walk until the next day. I only walked outside my room and just a little into the hall for the first time. I held a pillow against my incision and found that to be helpful. I did some walking on my own each day but not as much as I should have been. When is your surgery? Guest guest
For me, the hardest part of walking was getting out of bed. Imagine that someone forced you to do 2,000 sit-ups in a row. Imagine how your stomach muscles would feel the next day. It's like that. So anytime you use your stomach muscles AT ALL, it hurts. It's not unbearable, but it does make you go slow. When I walked, I didn't really hurt, I just needed to hold my hand over my stomach to keep it from moving. I too had that feeling like everything inside was all loose. - AA
