To band or not to band...for the 2nd time...

My son has been wearing Starband for 3 months. He is now 7 months and

has outgrown his helmet. He continues growing and hasn't reached his

platau of 18 " yet, but he's at 17.5 " right now. He still has 1/2 " of

correction to do on the side of his head. Should we band again? I'm

pretty sure the insurance won't cover the 2nd one. Any advice? Any

similar experiences?

Hi ,

You've come this far, why stop now? I say get him another band while

he's still young enough to get correction. Your insurance company

shouldn't deny a second band it should be considered continuation of

treatment. Good luck in making your decision, let us know what you decide.

I agree with . If you feel he could benefit from another band go

for it!

If insurance paid for the first band, a second should be continuation

of coverage. Is your STARband ortho considered in network?

Most insurance companies have guidlines for minimum measurements for

covering bands/helmets. They will most likely treat the second band

as a new one, not as the continuation of the first, so you might

want to check with them on the details. As for the decision - good

luck. We decided to get a second band for my son at the end of

November, and I couldn't be happier. He was 7 months at the time,

and we have seen amazing correction since.

Good luck.

I agree with them too :) If you feel he could benefit then go for

it. na wore 2 DOC bands. Once we won our appeal on the 1st

insurance covered the second as continuation of treatment. na

received a lot of correction in her first band but grew out of it

quickly. CT and I felt she could get more correction and she did.

After graduation she got about 1 extra mm in ear and cranial vault

correction.

Hi Edina,

We have had many members get a second band covered because it was

considered to be continuation of treatment.

second band.

Edina,

I'll have my fingers crossed that it's covered! Let us know.

I'm guessing so, because they covered the first one. The insurance

even called asking us about the ortho's service and our satisfaction.

I was surprised.
