LOL ,

You said:

Please excuse my cynicism, it must be " that time of the month " .

Well, guess what??? I don't have to worry about 'that time on the month' any

more, and I

completely agree with you !

Since I do not have health insurance, I checked the prices of all of this and

found out

that RAI would only be $400. Then just a TSH test perhaps twice... cost about

$40... then

TSH once a year.

I am sure the insurance companies like this deal. And when you end up having

problems

later, they know the odds are that you will have changed insurance companies by

then, so

it is not a concern to them They are not in the business of caring how you feel.

They are

in the business of making a profit.

And woe be to any doctor that does not march to their tune.

If you were to choose ATDs they would have to pay for all that needed testing,

IF you are

smart enough to INSIST on being properly monitored. ( hummm, wonder why most

patients are

not monitored properly) , then once you hit remission, by that time, according

to the

statistics, again, you will have changed insurance companies, so by their having

paid to

make you healthy, they then loose out, because you are no longer with them.

Insurance is meant to make a profit, and this is done with just the 'numbers'.

Plain and

simple. And if the patients loose out in the process, who is hurt ???

Since we are all getting fired up about it...<grin>

According to my vet, it costs $900.00 for RAI for a cat! That's without the

pre RAI blood work and post RAI blood work!

Pam -

$400! Holy cow! You're right, RAI is a bargain (in monetary terms only that

is!)

I had no idea it was that cheap. I think when I had to have the RAIU scan

and ultrasound, it was more expensive than that! No wonder doctors recommend

it. And no wonder they try and discourage you from having a thyroidectomy -

I think the ballpark I got for that was like $6000. It really burns my butt

that medical care is more about profit than patient!

Sigh, more fuel for my cynicism!

I admit - that did sounds like an intriguing book. I'm going to have to see

if I can get it. I didn't realize he had a plan to change it, I'd be

interested to know about that.

I think it's really cool that he's going to be your new primary

doc - you'll have to tell us how your appts with him go!

Doris -

$900 for a cat? So I guess that is about twice as much as us 2-legged

hypers, huh?

And do you have to board the cat until it's not radioactive anymore, like in

Jody's state? I bet it doesn't include that, either!

Unbelievable!
