Guest guest
It's not the fact that this was questioned. It's HOW it was put. For example: " By god, then send me some too, 'cause at this point, I don't give a fat rat's behind what this thing is, you are completely out of your frapping tree! " I fail to see that as insightful, professional, or even rational! Question the foundations claims? Absolutely. I did too, and did a bit of research on the web. But this is NOT the way professional discussions are conducted. It reflects badly on our profession. =Steve= Steve , LP AlertCPR Emergency Training 2300 Highland Village Rd, Suite 340 Highland Village, TX 75077 >--- Original Message --- > >To: < > >Date: 1/20/05 11:49:38 AM > > " Steve , LP " wrote: >> >> This message is offensive, inarticulate, and rude. >> And THIS is the image of EMS we give the world. >> And we wonder about our low image? > >I disagree in every respect. Guest guest
Not only is this not the way I would expect a true charitable foundation to act, it's not the way I'd expect one hoping to attract EMS services to trust them with funding numbers, public representation/press releases, etc. to act. Thanks, sir, you've pretty much shown all of us on this list your true temperament, and since you state that you represent Wind Foundation, we can get a pretty good feel for the motives and operations of the foundation, too. Guest guest
Mike Tom is my room mate and he is a member of AMWA which has nothing to do with Wind Foundation other then Tom has expertise in writing grants and is Director Of Center for Aids Hope and Remembrance 2 I the listing is the Board Of Director in our letter of incorporation this is public information. I have permission to release resumes from all of us if you would like a copy. has been a medic and now work his own Roofing Company , mr clint is an auto salesman that believes in helping us and lives in a community that has a Volunteer EMS Service, as for myself I have been a medic for 10 years volunteer 911 and private AMR now. It's sad that you take a few facts and turn them into distrust. Please call me this needs to stop. I have provided as much information on this site as I can. What else can I do? Also Tom can build a web site but is very busy with his non-profit when I can get his help its on his time and I try not to ask too much. _____ From: Mike Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2005 2:50 PM To: Subject: Re: Wind Foundation So, having had time to do research, here's what I've found: Gegeny's resume is at http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:3dU4rGyfs_kJ:www.centerforaids.org/tomg /resume/resume1.pdf+%221205+banks%22,+houston <http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:3dU4rGyfs_kJ:www.centerforaids.org/tom g/resume/resume1.pdf+%221205+banks%22,+houston & hl=en> & hl=en That's google's HTML representation of hsi PDF resume. It's fairly impressive. seems to work for AMWA. , do you know much about AMWA? Being a medical writer, maybe you have some insight here. also seems to be published on the aspects of setting up web sites. Makes it seem very strange that for someone published on web sites, a charitable foundation he's associated with can't seem to produce one and doesn't seem to recognize the value of one. also seems to be missing from this email thread. Instead, we have JC , who's using ' name in his email header. JC is less articulate with his words and less careful with his spelling than one would expect a grant writer to be, so one must conclude that he's a " front man, " much like a used car salesman or a carnival huckster - someone good at getting attention adn drawing a crowd. Then we have the WIND foundation - which appears to be using the address of the AMWA. It's registered board members are: DIRECTOR CLINT CARLIN 715 SPENCER HIGHWAY SOUTH HOUSTON , TX 77587 DIRECTOR J C SIMMONS 1205 BANKS HOUSTON , TX 77006 DIRECTOR KEVIN WHITTON P.O. BOX 524 HOUSTON , TX 77001 Neither Clint not appear to have EMS certifications in Texas, as listed on CertQuery. Julius C , of Houston, is a recently renewed EMT-I. So, what do we have? A startup organization with no real public presence asking list members for financial details on their respective organizations, and posting in a less coherent manner than one would expect a grant writer to post with, co-sharing an address with the AMWA, and using the name of one of their apparent writers. Could it be that this is an attempt to garner business for the AMWA? Maybe attract EMS agencies and get them to pay for grant writing services, or give up a part of their grants? What is the motive here, and more importantly, how does it really work? Guest guest
Why not just post the information on this list? The only thing that was asked was some basic information and you then offered to charge a fee to send it. JUST POSTING SOME VERY BASIC INFORMATION would have ended this thread a long time ago. Guest guest
Mr. Grady you are right there is confusion caused, by my lack of communication. We are not endowed and will be applying to Houston Endowment for start up cost. I have three professionals that will be writing the grant not my self. They do it for free, for the Foundation. Also Alan help with getting us a free web hosting site, that I am starting on this weekend, I am also meeting with Steve, that owes a private EMS service here in Houston that is donating an office space, and Helping out with some of the monthly cost that I have been paying. And its all coming together and I owe and mike apology; some times you don't want to hear, what you need to hear, just glade I heard if from them now then latter from someone else. _____ From: wegandy1938@... Sent: Friday, January 21, 2005 4:15 PM To: Subject: Wind Foundation Perhaps some clarifications will help. Wind Foundation is a nonprofit corporation showing to be at 805 Dumont Street, #203, South Houston, TX 77587-3303. It's taxpayer number is 12011819575. Dun and Bradstreet lists it as a " Fund Raising Organization. " Perhaps some of the confusion about Wind Foundation involves a misunderstanding of what sort of organization it is. When one thinks of a foundation, one usually thinks of a charitable trust or other charitable foundation. Charitable foundations are funded through bequests, generally, and dispense grants of money to organizations that meet their criteria. An example of that sort of organization is The Pew Charitable Trust. Other foundations manage charitable assets and also dispense grants. An example is The Wood Foundation. After exploring the matter a little bit, it seems that Wind Foundation is hoping to become a fund raising organization similar to Community Safety, the organization that raises funds for EMSAT. The American Red Cross is a fund raising organization. There are many ways of raising funds. Wind hasn't made it clear yet, at least to me, how they propose to raise funds, but some of the possibilities would be through telephone solicitations, Internet email solicitations, direct mailings, fund raising events (which can range from bake sales to Willie concerts), and writing and seeking grants from charitable trusts and governmentally available grants. There is nothing sinister about this so long as proper disclosures are made, no misrepresentations are made, proper accounting is done, and so forth. Fund raising organizations usually come under criticism for the portion of the money they raise that they retain for administrative expenses. Obviously, any organization must support its infrastructure and is entitled to keep a certain amount of money for salaries and operating expenses. Since nobody has yet stepped forth and admitted to having entered into an agreement with Wind Foundation, it's unknown how its agreement with an organization would read, what percent of funds raised would be going to the hiring organization, and so forth. This appears to me to be the situation with Wind Foundation. If I have misstated the situation, please correct me. People hire grant writers, fund raisers, promoters, and advertisers all the time. All of those receive a fee for services. The difference between the fund raising organization and a charitable trust is that the fund raising organization basically has no funds of its own. In other words, it's not an endowed charitable trust. The only money it will get is what it raises, a portion of which it will keep for overhead and the balance it will dispense to the client. This is opposed to The Pew Charitable Trust, for example, which is a heavily endowed trust that manages its endowmenet funds in order to make income, and that income is then dispensed in the form of grants. I think some thought Wind Foundation had a lot of money it was trying to give away. Perhaps it failed to make clear what sort of an organization it was. " We can help you " can either mean we can give you some money, or we can help you raise some money for a fee. " There's nothing wrong with the latter at all, so long as the organization is honest, above board, is effective, minimizes its internal overhead, and maximizes the portion of money raised that is sent to the client organization.
