Guest guest
Hi, I guess we are all hearing different things about the LID. My Nuclear doc said to avoid iodized salt, seafood, soy sauce, broccoli, spinach, kale, turnip greens, breads made with iodate dough conditioners, food containing red dyes, such as red or pink cereals, candies or vitamins, medicines(yellow/red capsule tylenol), restaurant foods. He is to limited eggs( even though I only eat egg whites) and milk or other dairy products, including ice cream, cheeses, yogurts, etc....this is from a list he gave me. I would like solid answers on sweet potatoes or yams, regular potatoes, blueberries, I am a vegetarian so I am trying to get my protein in a few different places. I am eating quinua pasta in salads or in homemade veggie soup. I am eating oatmeal or egg whites for breakfast...I munch on no salt almonds, dried plain apples, prunes, regular apples, bananas... Please....can someone help me if I am on track. I go in for RAI ( I think it is 50mci) isolation on Oct. 15th and I REALLY WANT IT TO WORK!!!!!! Thank you! L.A. TT- Sept. 10, 2002 sched. This is all very reasonable. Broccoli, spinach, kale, etc., are goitrogens, which can block the uptake of iodine (a good thing while on the LID, but not so good when you're ingesting RAI). Restaurant foods are just too risky in terms of the hidden ingredients they may contain. > He is to limited eggs( even though I only eat egg whites) and milk or > other dairy products, including ice cream, cheeses, yogurts, etc....this > is from a list he gave me. Until today, I've never seen sweet potatoes or blueberries even hinted at as a problem. As I said in my other letter, white potatoes seem to get mixed advice; some say they're fine, some say no skins, some say omit them altogether. I have been unable to get any kinds of numbers on them, including from the various potato councils. The only number I could find (35 mcg/3.5 oz potato) was at the web page of The Hot Potato, a restaurant chain. http://www.thehotpotato.com/english/nutrition.htm. OTOH, many of us eat white potatoes on the LID and do just fine, so go figure. I basically follow Dr. Ain's LID, omitting or limiting even some allowed foods (such as potatoes and legumes) for the last 4 days. > I am a vegetarian so I am trying to get my protein in a > few different places.
