The Food Lion brand has potato starch and corn starch and no flour...I buy it and haven't had any problems. The only allergin it lists is Milk.

Have you actually found a shredded cheese that usesflour? I haven't. Thank you for sharing this information! I would personally have no

hesitation about trying blue cheeses except I hate the taste of the

blue cheeses... yech. I know, i know, i fail the foodie test. When we

were in Venice (4 years ago) we went to one kinda fancy restaurant. I

think I had risotto. Then for dessert we ordered the cheese plate (one

great thing about travelling in europe is that this is an option). I

found half of the cheeses repulsive but it was still fun.

they used to think it was not, but the thinking has changed. I spend

a tiny amount of time googling it and here is the rationale explained

If I *Think* about cheese too long, I find 98% of it repulsive. :-)

And cheese and eggs together? Ugh. Before Baby 1, I LOVED cheese

omelettes. But pregnancy with Baby 1 turned that combination into the

ultimate gag dish. Pregnancy with Baby 1 also ruined coffee for me.

The coffee disgust only lasted 7 years though. The cheese + eggs

disgust has persisted.

I've seen some that use potato flour. I'm thinking

Trader Joes brands, but not sure at the moment.

I tried to order the back issue yesterday and apparently it is not in

print. The site said to email for more info, which I haven't done

yet. I picked up the issue that came out after Spring 2005 (Fall or

Winter, I can't recall) at Who;e Foods a while ago. This is where I

got the blue cheese info, from letters about the previous issue.

I really liked the magazine overall and it isn't as expensive if you

subscribe. It's one of those things that I just haven't gotten

around to yet.

I buy shredded cheese at walmart every

week and have never seen one with flour in it. We buy the fiesta mix, cheddar,

mozzarella, and occasionally Monterey

jack. Some regional differences probably occur, but in Texas I have yet to find a walmart cheese

with flour. They have all been gf.

I stopped buying the Walmart cheese cuz the formula must have changed and it didn't taste the same. I found a 2 pack of 1lb Mexican mix at Sams for ... I want to say $5.33. Kraft no less so I feel it's more safe...AND cheaper!Cheaper is good! This was atleast a year ago, if not 2 years ago, so they could have

changed their formula. It may not have even been Wal-Mart brand. I

just remember it was a store brand, and not Kroger. And I have seen

other shredded cheeses that had potato starch in them, so not all

shredded cheeses use cellulose. It is always best to triple check

everything and never assume. :)

changed their formula. It may not have even been Wal-Mart brand. I

just remember it was a store brand, and not Kroger. And I have seen

other shredded cheeses that had potato starch in them, so not all

shredded cheeses use cellulose. It is always best to triple check

everything and never assume. :)

I personally haven't found any with flour in them either, but I have seen

many with starches (potato, corn, modified food starch).

I'm not saying that there aren't any out there with flour in them. It is

ALWAYS best to read the labels every time.

I rarely buy shredded cheese, but when I do I just stick with a brand that

has potato or corn starch.

I prefer grated block cheese though because it melts better.
