Guest guest
Hi Haylee, It's really your decision to make. My dd last band wasn't recommended by her ortho, but I wanted to see if we could get just a little bit more correction. She was banded from the time she was almost 11.5 months old until she was 22 months old. She received awesome correction from her DOCband. If you think he may receive more correction, I say go for it! :-) Keep us posted. -- In Plagiocephaly , " haylee204 " <rascle204@h...> wrote: > > My son is 16 months old and had 2 bad starbands and now has a doc > band. Guest guest
Haylee, Are you in Canada? Seems as if those clinicians have to follow different protocol because of the insurance system? I don't remember hearing of an 18 mo banded in Canada on this board, but you do here in the US. How long has your son been banded? At his age it's typically 4 or 4.5 months. After then the pressure points aren't really effective even if the band fits. We didn't go to CT, but an independent provider of the DOC Band here in the states, but they follow the same protocol as the CT clinics. Guest guest
Yup we are in Canada. He has had his doc band since November and had 2 starbands for a total of 5 weeks when he was 9 months old. > > > > My son is 16 months old and had 2 bad starbands and now has a doc > > band. Guest guest
Hi Haylee. My daughter's in her 2nd DOC Band and is 15 1/2 months. She'll be 18+ months when she graduates from this band. Right now CT is saying no for a 3rd band because of the age she will be. Her pediatrician says both sutures are already closed. My husband doesn't want to go for a 3rd band unless we could be assured of significant improvement which of course no one can guarantee. CT also understands I'm not too excited about the correction achieved so far. My daughter's head is improving but I was hoping for a shocking " wow " moment, like infomercial cleansers. It really is your choice if you want another band or not. I thought it was common for CT to band as late as 18 months or even later? Their website has a child who got started at 19 months. But I don't know how they determine their recommendations. Maybe that child's sutures weren't closed yet? ~ > > My son is 16 months old and had 2 bad starbands and now has a doc > band. Guest guest
Haylee, I am completely clueless as to how your health system works, but can you appeal that another DOC Band is required because of the problem with the STARbands? That certainly caused a delay in his treatment. It also seems that the Canadian health system requires the kids to be older to get their bands (isn't it 6 months or something). If the child is severe that is going to require a second band. Can you try to appeal it at all? Hopefully he'll get some nice growth spurts in before he gets done with this band. > > > > > > My son is 16 months old and had 2 bad starbands and now has a > doc > > > band. Guest guest
Haylee, Even though most sutures will close by 20 months they are still pliable for some time afterwards making correction possible still. If you want another band and the Canadian health system doesn't block your way then tell them you want one. You may have to sign something that says they don't gaurantee results or something, but who cares.
